Last year we used hotwire but I was toying with priceline. Figured I could at least make some bids and see what I get. My question is how often can you bid? We are not leaving for 11 months so I have plenty of time. Also how can you make sure you don't get LaQuinta? What is the lowest you can reasonably bid on a three star or higher? Thanks Ann
ps-I plan on checking hotwire daily too and if I see Amerisuites come up low I will just grab that.

Read biddingfortravel.com and that will explain all the ins and outs of priceline.com. You will almost ALWAYS get a better price through Priceline than Hotwire....if something is going for $30 on Hotwire, it would probably come up accepted for less at priceline....read the FAQ's on the mentioned website. It explains all the info. I wouldn't bid less than 3 stars on Priceline(Hotwire seems to rank properties about 1 star higher than priceline) The website will tell you what properties are currently coming up in what areas and for what price.

Good luck. I love Priceline!

I agree - check out Biddingfortravel.com There is lots of good info on the ins & outs of bidding on Priceline. I was nervous about using Priceline until I found Biddingfortravel. We've got great rates for Downtown Seattle twice now. So I've used them to do our arrival night and departure night in Orlando. We got the Sheraton Suites for $48 and the Rennaisance Mariott for $38.

www.biddingfortravel.com is working fine now. Be sure to read the FAQs and then peruse the geographic board of where you want to stay - you will have a great feel about the prices and hotels from there!

I've used priceline and hotwire - and I agree that priceline is generally lower.
