Has anyone ever used the Priceline name your own price tool? DH and I are looking to take a trip to sanibel in January, and are trying to do it as cheaply as possible. Thanks in advance for your feedback!!

Yes, many times. It is a great money saver if you are open to staying anywhere.

I used it many times and was always happy with the outcome. Managed to get great hotels for a reasonable price.
I always check with an other forum http://www.betterbidding.com/
They have lists with the hotels that participate and their star rating and amenities. Often you can guess what hotel you will get with this tool.

I've used Name your Price many times. How's $110/night at The Beverly Hills Hilton -INCLUDING Limo service. When I checked in and they told me we could take the Limo anywhere in a 10 mile radius I about died laughing(given what we paid).

Hotwire is good too!

Thanks everyone! We are actually looking at it for flights. My family has a condo on the island, so a hotel isn't necessary. Sorry, I forgot that part when I posted:(

Flights may be less appealing. You get to choose the departure and return dates, but not the arrival or departure times or the number of connections.

It actually gave us the option as to how many connections we had. We bid $1 per person, and it was excepted, I was just too nervous about it to book.

If you are okay with getting stuck with early morning flights you should be ok.

That would be perfect actually, I would prefer early morning!!

I used it one time for flights and won't do that again. We had decent flights to start, but then one got cancelled and we got bumped to the next day which didn't work as we had event tickets for a college bowl game the next day...eventually they got us halfway on original date and then out early the next morning to our final destination. The worst part of it was that we were now considered to have a last minute booking and had to go through extensive security screening on each flight day, even though the rebookings were their fault (originals had been purchased 5 weeks on advance).

Have also used several times for hotels with all positive experiences; Hyatt Regency San Antonio River walk for $75/night, Omni in Jacksonville for a great rate for the Daytona 500 one year and the Crowned Plaza Atlanta Airport for $48/night.

Also just had a successful car rental in San Antonio two weeks ago, $15/day for mid size SUV, ended up with a Jeep Liberty from Hertz. Was even as to use the computer kiosk to complete the rental (huge time saver).

Would not use for flights again, but absolutely for hotels and rental cars.

I've used it for hotels but never flights. I've heard too many horror stories about flights people are stuck with. Since I've never done it I can't confirm, but from reviews I've read, it's pretty common to get stuck with really long layovers.

I've never used Priceline but I was just at my hairdresser and she mentioned she uses them all the time, but for car rental only. She said she starts a bid extremely low fully expecting a no but eventually gets a good deal.

It didn't "accept" your $1 you wouldn't get them for that, it was just telling you they'd try your $1 at that point. You put in your cc# ahead of time but it would have almost certainly come back with a message saying they can't find a flight at that price point.

Thanks for the info. That's makes a lot more since. I kept telling dh it was to good to be true haha

I have alwSys been guaranteed connection parameters. The rules limit the number of connections unless you agree to an additional one

We have used several times and one connection with depart and arrival times guaranteed is on the site..once we did Hawaii for half price and they cancelled our flight so United gave us a better one...no upgrade fee!!!

Departures was 6am-10pm and arrival no later than midnight...we have saved a bunch on flights and never more than one connection unless you authorize it.
