Priceline Hotel end of July

Has anyone gotten hotels through Priceline in July? Any tips? Trying to decide what area to bid in and if we'd rather be really close so we can walk or if we're okay with taking a shuttle (we usually take a shuttle other than when we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel).

Thoughts? Thanks!

ETA: Should I start bidding ASAP? Do you think end of July will be crazy busy?

Have you checked out www.biddingfortravel.com? There's a great list of hotels that bids have been won on in the different areas. They have both Priceline and Hotwire lists. Also, you can use the listing of hotels with their ratings and amenities to often time figure out the Hotwire hotels.

We just went the Hotwire route for our hotel at the end of August - ended up with the Ayres Orange for $68/night. It's a little ways from DLR (not walking distance, but still only 3.5 miles), but on an ART line. Free parking, free American breakfast, and overall good ratings. I'm happy!

I don't think now is too early, but use a site like betterbidding.com to get a sense of typical priceline wins and if you're going to start bidding now, don't go over what you're willing to pay. Hotels release room stock at different times (and I don't know enough about the hotel industry to know when that might typically be but I'm thinking with higher summer demand, room release might happen a little later than typical).

This summer will likely be busier than usual because of the DCA improvements, so you might have to go beyond Disneyland North/Disneyland South (depending on how much you're willing to pay).

Sometimes events may also make a difference. If you're having diffculty finding winning a bid at the price you want, do a day by day search in Hotwire for the time you're going to be there. There may be a conference or some other event that is affecting room stock and you can see this with Hotwire if you see one particular day is a lot more expensive than the rest.

It's been several years, but I did get the Hyatt Regency in July in priceline. I think I paid $40 dollars a night! I doubt that kind of price will show up these days, but it was a fantastic place to stay!

I've said this various times on various boards, but my best priceline "get" was $25/night at the Extended Stay America Anaheim (right behind GardenWalk). Typical ESA property: clean, suites, really hard beds, bare bones, and a 10-minute walk from the main gate! We had flown into Long Beach and the car rental cost more than the hotel room!

In July, 4 years ago I also got the Hyatt for $45.00 a night, well worth it being in Garden Grove.
If you bid on the Garden Grove section, you have a better chance of getting something higher end, for less...
I have also gotten the Hilton and the Doubletree for $50.00 a night.

Might be different this summer though, all of the rack rates are jacked up!

It's been quite a few years now, but we also got the Hyatt for really cheap, like $30 a night through Priceline. Those were the days!

You should do great if you're using Priceline. Even though it's the busy season, there are plenty of hotels that will sell their rooms through Priceline. You should give http://www.hoteldealsrevealed.com a try as well for winning bids and hotels that you might get on PL.

I hope you can find a room on PL. You may have to go with HW. I tried last summer on PL two weeks out and could not get a winning bid due to the high occupancy rates at the hotels. We ended up going through HotWire, which means paying more money. Good luck!
