PRICELINE confusion

Newbie here with car rentals --

Can you give me your experience with priceline?

Seems like two options: Name your own rate (no changes allowed) and the other, but there's little indication that option CAN be changed, other than a brief note.

Also, I always thought the company / hotel names weren't revealed but I DO see the car rental names listed! Am I don't something wrong? The rates do seem to be better but I want to have the option of changing (since I'm so new at this...)

However, I'm confused about the "Shop and Compare" option on Priceline where you Do NOT bid, but are just given the seemingly best rate.

Anyone have experience with that option?

Have you been able to adjust or cancel THAT rate / car?

For normal Priceline bidding all the possible car rental companies are named but you can't choose which one you get.

PL bought lowestfare.com and is now giving you the choice of "naming your own price" or using PL as an online TA, similar to Expedia and Travelocity.

Ahh, that explains it! I always thought priceline was exclusively for *bidding* so it makes sense now. Thank you!
