I had to share this with people who would understand. I was having lunch with a good friend, and she asked me about my "thing" with Disney and why we go to the parks so often. She asked me whether or not I had happy childhood? Was I trying to make up for something I missed in my childhood? :teeth:

Are you kidding me? :confused3

For me I think it is because my childhood was so happy that I love to go. Everytime I am at Disney I remember going there as a child with my parents. I love to talk about the things I did as a kid at Disney with my dd and give her the chance to do the same things. Now I am making my own memories with my own family and still bringing the parents along to create new ones. :sunny:

Now that I have purchased DVC, I have another 40+ years to continue to make memories with my daughter and then someday with her children. :wizard:

Well Stephanie...maybe some folks had such boring childhoods that their imagination doesn't process the magic of a place like WDW and therefore they can't appreciate it's ability to just make people happy. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I think I have a couple friends like yours too! I don't even like to tell folks I'm going back any longer!

That's a new one. :rotfl2: :lmao:

I would have asked her if she's trying to make up for something missing from her childhood by going to the shore/cabin/lake/mall so often.

Well, there's another person that remembered too much Freud from Psychology 101.

She's really a very nice person, but I was a bit taken aback when she said that. I tried to tell her that the parks are only part of the enjoyment--mentioned the hotels, the pools, and the restaurants. I don't think she got it. The sad thing is, she has two children 10 & 7, and they've never been. Poor things.

Clear case of child abuse, if you ask me. But I had the pleasure of taking my husband on his first WDW trip (he was 37). He seems to be normal, so I guess not having a childhood trip to Disney didn't affect him too badly. ;)

My cousin once told me that she saw no reason to go back to WDW because she had seen it all. I almost choked! The last time she and her husband went it was only for two days and they only went to MK and Epcot, and left Epcot early because she got blisters so they didn't even see Illuminations! Seen it all??? They haven't stepped foot inside the Studios or AK, haven't toured any of the resorts, they've never even eaten at any of the restaurants! On each of their 3 trips, they've only eaten at counter service places. I'd love to get them to come with my husband and I for a long, leisurely trip to WDW so we can show them how to really appreciate everything Disney has to offer. To show them that WDW is really a resort destination and not just an amusement park to be experienced in commando mode. I doubt if it will ever happen because they just don't want to hear about WDW! :confused3

Some people will NEVER get it!
Been twice a year for the last 6 years and have many more things to look foward to.
Been there done that...................
We have alot to do yet.
We have some friends that feel the same way as us and we all are excited at planning our next trip.

Some friend at work were jokin AT me today about the lottery. "And if you win you'll say, I'm going to Disney World"
They know me all to well. :cool1:

Some people are just like that :confused3 . I have a friend who went there with her Dh and her 11 year old son. Her report to me was....
It's okay as far as she's concerned but her husband was bored and her son thought the rides at Universal were more fun.
I just don't understand. Over the years, my quiet, just sit there and listen to other's opinions looked over and said..." You've got to be kidding me" "Your husband couldn't find anything to do at WDW???, Then, you never looked at the WDW beyond the parks"..... I myself think there are always going to be an "us and them" thing.... "Us" WDW lovers :mickeyjum AND "Them" Universal lovers :confused3 ... In my family, my sister loves Universal and her family thinks we are "sick" for buying into DVC (because we go just about every year)... I just don't see the big attraction that her family has going to stay at the Nick hotel suites and going to Universal. Oh well.... :confused3 :confused3

I love it! :lmao: We get the SAME thing from our families.....our car's license frame says, "It's a Disney thing....you wouldn't understand!"

To add a giggle to your day, a friend of mine recently said that she was going on a trip to WDW with her extended family at Easter next year (1st time). Imagine my face when she asks me (knowing we are Disney freaks), "Oh, so does WDW have a second park like Disneyland and California Adventure, or is it just one park we can do in a day?" After choking, I "enlightened" her :rotfl2: and asked if her family had begun planning. She said, "Oh no, we are just going to leave that all up to the travel agent." Heehee

I think you're right and some people don't get it and will probably NEVER get it. We've taken my daughter pretty much every year since she was 4...she's about to turn 15. I asked her recently if she's getting tired of goint to WDW and here's her answer: "Yeah, almost as much as I get tired of BREATHING!" So, I guess that just about sums it up for her. :rotfl:

We are a definite Disney family. We can't imagine a year going by without our annual Christmas trip. Actually, DH is getting the shakes because it's been almost 6 months since we were last there and we won't be going back for about 6 more months.
:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

You got it right Buzz. Some will NEVER get it. And you can't explain it to them. We just got back from our 4 trip in 11 months. Stayed in 4 different DVC resorts, got great use of our AP's and ate at some great places thanks to the DDP. And then you get the "haven't you guys had enough of that place?" or "why don't you go somewhere else?" I just say, it's my money, my time, my vacation.

I'm going 3 times this year and I know I will see something new each time!! My parents moved to Central Florida 6 years ago, they go often and when I visit we ALWAYS go. Now that I'm a DVC member, we are taking mini vacations of 2 or 3 nights when I visit.
There a lot of people that don't get it, and I feel sad for them. It means that they have lost their sense of wonder and imagination and the belief that dreams can come true. What a terrible way to live life!!
Funny story-I've been taking my niece to WDW since she was 5, and when she was a junior in HS she actually broke up with a boy because he thought Universal was better than WDW. She said, "I just can't see a long term relationship with someone so misguided" I told her she was right, and that "Relationships outside of the faith seldom work."

LOL!!! Thanks for the great laugh!!! That was SO funny! I had to call my husband into the office and share it with him. Are we a cult now? Sometimes it seems like it the way some of our family treat us when they hear we're going back to WDW....hehe. :rotfl:

EBAY!!!!! I found someone on there who personalizes and engraves license plate frames, so we had one made, plus one for the front of the car that says, "We are in love with that Disney magic!" It always gets us attention....one visit to Paradise Pier at Disneyland, some CMs were riding around in their golf cart in the parking structure, and they stopeed just to read our car and asked where they could get one, too! :rotfl2: Gotta love that eBay!
