Price went up on DVC rental

As a DVC owner our yearly maintenance fees go up every year ~3-5%. So to see an increase in rental prices is not surprising. Both davids and the owner still want to make some money on the transaction. Thankfully even with an increase in rental prices it still works out to be less expensive than direct from Disney.

Does it or am I missing something? I own DVC. But in a year, at most 2 we want to make a huge family trip, both girls with there kids and all stay together. Now I know year from year prices can change, but I am trying to figure out the best use of renting, going thru Disney and or using some of our points, or just saving for another year. No matter how I figure it out with this years prices, buying a room direct thru Disney saves me $1000. And I am so confused by that since I have always heard buying thru Dave was cheaper. We have never needed to rent, we always have enoughfor our two weeks in a studio of our choice, but if we do all 9 with 2 under 2, we need at least a two bedroom.

What resort/room are you booking through Disney?

SS two bedroom, $497 a night, AP rate. Comes to $7455, for 15 nights, but we have 5% from target so $7082. Daves has it for $8025, not sure if there is more, like the $95 fee is included. 535 points, means if I use my points, which I would never have that amount, but seems to me that is very expensive, because it is 5 1/3 years of points, which would be about $2400 a year so $12720,but I know that is not exactly the price since points are valued at 50 years not just the years you have them, but still that seems very high to me compared to the other two prices.

Anyway, I just can't figure out the best way to book this, and of course all of the prices could change by next May or Aug when we want to go.

It's interesting to keep a little perspective on DVC renting vs rack rates. In my case, I've rented 91 points for six nights at BRV this coming December. My rent was $1547. Adding an extra $1 would bring it to $1638. Rack rate for an equivalent WL room, with taxes and assuming a 20% room-only discount was about $2950 for the same number of nights. So, still a really great deal if your goal is to save money at a deluxe resort. Of course, that anecdote doesn't mean much if you have a hard cap on what you can spend for lodging...
This. Renting points is a great deal when you compare the rental price with the price to book the same room from Disney, but it's not inexpensive.

but I am trying to figure out the best use of renting, going thru Disney and or using some of our points,

There is a board here where you can receive a transfer of points to your account. They retain their UY and home resort and I believe that they could be banked. You can only receive a transfer once per UY-So with that --you could figure out what you need to add and then try and get points from another member. Generally what you pay on the rent/transfer board is similar to what you rent for, but you hold complete control over the reservation. There is just a little bit of risk of in the transaction. When i did it i had to send a bank check (some accept paypal) then once the member receives the check they call MS to transfer points to your account. The person i transferred from was super great, literally within an hour of him receive the check the points were in my account. Unless the resort and UY match yours then you can not see the points online.

I am in your boat too. We planned for a big family trip next April so i have had to bank our 2017 points and will need to borrow a little from 2019. With having to save up my points i needed to receive a transfer from another member to book a convention trip this April. I ended up getting boardwalk points for a conference. So this is an option for you, which might be better because you will control the reservation. If you rent then you are at the mercy of another member.

I'm too tired to think straight now, but I thought you could not bank transferred points. I could be wrong, but check before doing.

I think the thing is you can't transfer banked points, but once you receive them you can bank. Pretty sure that is the rule because for an upcoming conference I received April 2017 BW points for an April 2017 trip. If the conference rooms were cheaper I knew I needed to know by November to bank if I wasn't going to use the transfered BW points.

I was just looking at David's for the first time. I was thinking about doing this for my October trip. I have never done it before and was very impressed with he prices I saw. I'd be splitting with friends 3 ways. I'm still very new to this and am looking into the details. Do people have good experiences?
Using David's for the 4th time this fall. They are lovely - very easy to deal with and every visit has been great.
