so I've been watching davids dvc rentals and am planning to rent 11 months out for April 2018 trip. The price just went up over $200 from the last time I checked. Anyone else experience this? I wonder why.

Yes, it has. We've been looking, too, and trying to figure out what we will do for our next trip. I checked the other rental place, and it's the same price as David's. My guess is that renting has become more popular, so there is enough demand to raise prices.

They increased the payments to the DVC member, I assume to attract more members to rent their points.

From all the reading I've done the demand for point rentals has really increased and companies are not getting enough points to keep up with demand. To attract more owners to rent their points they have increased what they pay owners and in turn have to charge more to those renting the points.

I had a really rough time renting points earlier this year. Went with an individual instead. Becoming more competitive should help.

Thanks. This helps. I was hoping our week did not just increase due to demand. Frustrating because I put our request in two weeks ago but was told it was too early. Now an extra $200. Guess not much I can do. If I wasn't overplanning I would not have even known.

I chose to rent from an individual owner instead of one of the rental services, and saved more than $2/point off what the rental stores charge. (And this was before the recent price increase, as I rented my points back in December.)

Supply and demand. In the grand scheme, $200 is not that big of a deal is it? Aren't renters supposedly saving a large amount from a normal room reservation? MF go up every year for DVC so it's not that unreasonable for rental rates to increase as well.

I was just looking at David's for the first time. I was thinking about doing this for my October trip. I have never done it before and was very impressed with he prices I saw. I'd be splitting with friends 3 ways. I'm still very new to this and am looking into the details. Do people have good experiences?

As a DVC owner our yearly maintenance fees go up every year ~3-5%. So to see an increase in rental prices is not surprising. Both davids and the owner still want to make some money on the transaction. Thankfully even with an increase in rental prices it still works out to be less expensive than direct from Disney.

Looking for THIS October? You may not have a good experience. You're late to the table to rent for October 2017.

Oh, really? I had no idea. I never book trips too far out. What is a usual good lead time?

I mean, really, if it's much further than now, then I probably won't ever bother. I simply won't plan that far. This was something I was curious about because we will have 3, and I thought more space would be good and less costly than separate rooms.

7-11 months. Fall is DVC high season. Owners can book their home resorts starting 11 months from check-in; all DVC owners can book at any resort, based on availability, at 7 months. DVC is a timeshare and works best for those who can plan on those timeframes. For this October, many resorts cannot be booked for a full week at this point, particularly studio villas.

Well, I've got 7 months (almost exactly). I've been reading more about it though, and I'm not quite sure it's for me. I'm not looking for anything too fancy, but was probably going to do a 1 bedroom though. I don't know if I like the process (been reading at Davids). I'll have to talk with my friends about it.

Thanks for the tips.

October is rough. Even most of the near-park resort 1BRs have availability holes already. And if you were pricing out anything like AKV Value or BLT/BWV Standard, those are long gone as well. SSR is likely your best bet.

Also, DVC 1BRs have a king bed and a sofa bed, so two people won't have a "real" bed, and everyone better like sharing.

Can confirm I booked with Davids at $15 per point (14+1pt premium) last week. It took a couple of days to find an owner to rent points. Looking at the site now, there is a $1 per point increase. I was reluctant to go to another site as they were charging $16 points for 11 months out, but now they're both the same.

It's interesting to keep a little perspective on DVC renting vs rack rates. In my case, I've rented 91 points for six nights at BRV this coming December. My rent was $1547. Adding an extra $1 would bring it to $1638. Rack rate for an equivalent WL room, with taxes and assuming a 20% room-only discount was about $2950 for the same number of nights. So, still a really great deal if your goal is to save money at a deluxe resort. Of course, that anecdote doesn't mean much if you have a hard cap on what you can spend for lodging...

While being able to book 7-11 is the most ideal, if you're flexible and willing to do split stays you can put together stays at resorts other than OKW and SSR. We booked our last vacation at about 4 months and did a split between BLT and Poly in studios. We do have a DVC friend who was able to check availability for us though so we could make a request that we knew was available. After renting from David's twice we are now in the process of buying DVC ourselves to be able to control the whole process ourselves.
