I know this probably an old question but I am new to the forum. Can someone give me an idea on the current average price/point that people are advertising? I've seen $10.00/point or a little above and a little below. Also, is Old Key West the best resort for price or number of points needed. Does it get crowded? Pro's or Con's? Thanks in advance.

OKW (IMHO) is one of the best resorts at WDW. Great value, great room (spacious) great amenities and nice people. We love it.

Points are basically $10-12 per point. You may see a "sale" but that maybe someone needing to get rid of them in a hurry, due to their use year.

The only con I can say about OKW is that it's not on the monorail system.

Other than that, it's fantastic! :cool1:

I would say that currently $10 is sort of the base price on the DIS Rent/Trade Board, with some asking more and a few people asking a little less. Generally, if you see someone renting points for less than $10, they are in some sort of a jam and need to unload the points -- we call those "distressed" points. Usually, the DVC owner is approaching the end of their use year and is in danger of losing the points entirely.

I seriously doubt that you will find rental points for under $10 for next April at this time. Maybe in January/February, but not right now. However, you are very smart to be planning ahead and the flexibility you will have now is well worth the $1 per point you might save.

If you go to other sites (TUG, Redweek, eBay) you will probably pay $12-15 per point. That's not as bad as it sounds, because even at $15 per point, you are getting one heck of a vacation bargain. Obviously, however, the target market for those sites is people who don't know they can rent for less here.

OKW has the lowest points cost (see DVC Points Charts at the top of this page). Whether that is the "best" for you depends on what you are looking for in your vacation.

OKW and Saratoga Springs are designed like large apartment complexes, with a lot of room between buildings, parking right at your unit, and a much more spread-out feel. Beach Club, Boardwalk, and the Villas at Wilderness Lodge are each attached to Disney hotels, and therefore have much more of a hotel feel, and probably more hotel amenities than OKW or SSR. The downsides often mentioned are longer walks to cars, and a more crowded feel.

I personally think all DVC properties are very conveniently located, but some are more convenient to one or more parks. Beach Club and Boardwalk are situated between Epcot and MGM, so they are obviously convenient to those two parks. VWL is just a short boat ride from Magic Kingdom. Saratoga Springs is just across the lake, and an easy walk, from Downtown Disney. Old Key West has boat and bus service to Downtown Disney, and is a little closer to all of the parks than Saratoga. (We drive our car, so we find either OKW or SSR to be very convenient to anywhere we want to go...and they are also very convenient to off-site shopping and dining.)

OKW has the largest units in most categories. The size of the units at the other four WDW locations are all about the same.
Does it get crowded?
All of the DVC properties are designed to operate at or near capacity. Beach Club and Boardwalk probably have more congestion than the others, but some people really like being in the middle of the action. OKW and SSR definitely have a less-crowded, quieter feel, but not everybody likes that.

A good site to visit is allearsnet.com. Click on their accommodations button and then scroll down the left side of the page until you find the DVC resorts listed. You'll see maps, and a ton of pictures of all of the resorts. That will give you a better feel for the resorts.

Thank you all for the feedback. This is why I love Disney because of the people it brings together. It is my hope that my children will love it as much as I. I know an 8 year old who already does. Looking to introduce another on our next family trip. Thanks again. I feel more informed.

Wilderness Lodge 2004 - didn't rent back then.

I hope my original response was not misleading regarding transportation. OKW and Saratoga Springs have boat service to Downtown Disney. All of the resorts except SSr have bus service to Downtown Disney, and I believe all have bus transportation to the theme parks except BCV/BWV to Epcot and MGM, and VWL to MK. Those resorts have boat transport to those parks.
