Does Walmart or Target price match? There is an item on sale at Best Buy but they just sold out of it. And if they will match it, what do I need to prove it is $5 cheaper? At Best Buy, you can buy online and pick up at the store. So even though you are "online" you are really buying from the store and store inventory. I know I have had Walmart tell me they won't match their own "online" price...

Walmart with price match anybody. Our Targets here in MN price match but I don't know if thats company wide.

Stores only price match ads. They don't match online prices
I agree and of course I don't have a physical circular. But the Best Buy online price is their store price and when you select "in store pickup". It works exactly the same way as buying directly at the store. You even get charged tax.

Online and store price is often different at BestBuy.

I absolutely disagree with you here. IF the pick up in store option is available it is EXACTLY the same. Think about it. I could be standing in the store, looking at an item on the shelf and online(iPhone). If the price was lower online, I would click buy online / pick up in store, walk to the front of the store, pick it up and walk out.

I DO agree that some items are for sale ONLINE ONLY and those, yes, could be different.

Last time I was at Target and asked about price matching they said you had to have the printed add. They would not accept an online print out and you had to be able to show the ad for the lower price. Not sure about walmart b/c the closet one is at least 30 min from my house.

i price matched many things this christmas at my local walmart and never had to show an add......just told them at the register the price and they matched it

Actually, it could be different. You aren't charged until you pick it up, and the store could give you the lesser price if that is what they charge. If it isn't, you got lucky by buying it online, and will get that price. Not everyone will buy online and pickup, and not everyone will check both to compare.

As far as the price match, I think it isn't going to work if you don't have the ad. When I worked at an electronics store, for some items we would call the other store to see if it was an in stock item after we saw the ad - if it wasn't, no price match. You could try to argue it, but I'd be pretty drippingly nice to try to get it.

Because any store that price matches requires the printed circular as proof, you will need to go to Best Buy and pick up an ad; then bring it to Walmart.

That's cool. Yeah, I tried to explain that the price was the actual price being charged in the store but they could not follow my logic and thus, it was a lost cause without the circular. I could have tried to escalate to a manager but it wasn't worth it for $5. I mean this is the budget board, but c'mon...;)

Nope, that is not true, you are charged when you are online not at the store. If it happened that the price online was different than the price in the store, you could do exactly as I described and get the lower price. That is my point, the consumer can control it.

Best Buy is the only place I know that you can shop online and buy at the store. The only drawback to this process is that there is a lag between buying online and getting the confirm message that a sales rep walked to the aisle and pulled the product off the shelf. During Thanksgiving week, I lost a $200 netbook because after "buying it" online, I got an email that it was not available.
