I'm hearing BLT will go up to $120 a point on October 4th. Has anyone else heard this or about price increases for the other resorts?

Yup. Just heard the news about BLT going up to $120/point. I already signed our BLT add-on papers and dropped them off at FedEx. :thumbsup2

Time will tell if they are right or wrong. I'm taking a wait and see attitude. Our visit in August did not convince me that BLT was the place for us. I think I might have to rent or stay rack rate before I can invest. For some reason the rooms seem much smaller (some actaully are), and I'm not a big fan of the decor. Can't invest in something I don't feel really great about.

Well.....spoke to my guide yesterday.
There are no new incentives scheduled to come out anytime soon.
The guides were told (and shocked to hear) that in October prices will rise to $120. per pt.
Guess I'd be looking for an incentive to happen at years end as tradition has dictated in past years.
Sure glad I don't need any..:scared1:

Good move! :thumbsup2

I knew BLT was selling well but...$120/point well? At least those still on the fence have another month or so before deciding to buy under the current incentives.

  1. How often does DVD increase price per point?
  2. When price increases, do they typically come out with some great incentives to keep the price closer to what it was prior to that?

BTW...........
The current incentive that was to end 8/25 "HAS BEEN EXTENDED" to include this coming weekend.
Don't know if its a Sat or Sun deadline.

????If sales are so good, why the $20ish price per point incentive? Cutting the price that much and then raising it to $120? Is that a good marketing strategy for the long run?:confused3 I guess, it will be good for the resale market.

I haven't seen incentives that large at BLT -- at least not recently. I think it's been more like $5, with an additional $6 to $8 with an owner referral. I wonder how many purchasers even know about the owner referral incentive before they buy?

I'm sure when they go up to $120, they will keep some incentives. At the end of the day, I think this will be effectively a $5 to $10 per point increase, depending on what incentives are being offered at the particular time.

As a perspective buyer (I have rented points the last 3 years) who almost took the plunge in the last few months

I would say anything above $100 and I wouldnt even consider DVC and I cant imagine them having the "cahoonies" to try and charge $110-$120 pp

JIMO

That would be completely and utterly outrageous

I saw this on one of the boards recently. I think, it may have been offered on a cruise.?? It was actually around $23 off.....depending on the points purchased. I've also seen resales as low as $95 for BLT.

Maybe for you (and certainly for me). But, if there are still enough people left who would buy at a higher price, then DVD would be negligent to the shareholders not to charge it.

Never forget: the Mouse cares about you only to the extent that doing so gets him more Cheese.

I've never seen BLT incentives for anything more than $16/point (and that was for only a couple month period back in the Spring). For the other resorts, yes, but for BLT, I think that DVC has been cutting incentives there drastically due to the positive sales.

Well, in my opinion, anyone who spends $15,000+ without doing their homework deserves what they get. A simple Google search will result in quite a bit of information about the various types of incentives. AND, my understanding is that DVC has always allowed people who haven't yet closed to amend their contracts to add a referral incentive, which is actually very considerate of them.

I, too, am very interested to read about what DVC offers in terms of the new incentives (if prices do, indeed, go that high). I'm afraid to say it, but I think that BLT is so popular that even at $120/point, there is still going to be quite a bit of demand. BUT, for all of us owners, demand is always a good thing.

Well, unfortunately, with the prices of hotels continuing to rise, I can see totally see it. I'm sure that people buying OKW when it opened for $60/point can't imagine paying even what I paid for BLT. It's all relative.

In other words, they want more of the new money coming in to be for AKV contracts, and perhaps they think this is a way to control this by pointing people towards AKV points.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. DVC always tells you that points are points are points, and it's going to make people REALLY convince themselves that home resort isn't really *that* important when they can get AKV or SSR at $85/point versus BLT at $120/point. And, for those who still want BLT, DVC is going to be laughing all the way to the bank (like it doesn't already - LOL).

Yeah -- I certainly don't disagree with this. My point, though, was that it's really in disney's interest to increase the price per point and then fine tune it with incentives. Even if only 5 to 10 percent of the people are point of sale customers who don't know about owner referrals (and I bet it's more than that) there's really no reason for disney not to jack up the price per point and then reduce it with incentives. If you make the points $120 with a $20 incentive, even if 90 percent of the people get the $100 price, the 10 percent who don't is reason enough to justify jacking up the price per point. Put another way, I would think that making the base price $120 and giving a $20 per point discount, instead of $112 per point with a $12 discount, works out better in the long run for disney because even if just a few people pay the $120, you're ahead, and the price is not so outrageous that you can't tolerate scaring a few people off with the $120.

So, the current incentive for BLT of $13 with a referral for new members buying 200 points is ending this Saturday. Do the event incentives stay the same throughout the event? I am thinking since the Garden City event begins tomorrow and usually has better incentives than the current offers that the price may be in the $96-98 range. Of course this is just speculation but I would appreciate anyone going on Friday to list the incentives so I know what I may be in store for on Sunday. Even though $120 per point seems very high, I believe the proximity and convenience to the MK will continue to drive the demand since the other monorail resorts are so expensive.
