Price Increases for Restaurants! Just Be Aware!

In my past three trips we've done at least two buffet meals, usually more, either due to character interaction or in an attempt to please everyone in the group. This trip, however, I'm going with my boyfriend who hates buffets. We only have one planned (Crystal Palace) based on how good it was last time.

I'm curious as to whether my dining experience will improve by cutting out the buffets.

Have a great trip PolyGirl!

Also wanted to mention that when the price increases by a dollar you don't really notice it. But when it jumps considerably, it's a big shock to the budget.

And while Disney does say it reserves the right to change prices/menus at any time, I don't think any of us expect to show up at a restaurant and have it cost "a lot" more than when we booked the reservation.

But I think once people do start noticing, there may be a drop off in the restaurants being filled every night.

I think there really isn't any totally accurate way to determine the exact price you will pay at the time you arrive for your meal unless you call the restaurant directly on the exact day you plan to dine there. Any online menus, including the ones at www.disneyworld.com are best used only as guidelines, because the prices and items can change at any time.

Wow, the prices are ridiculous! I guess Disney is really pushing people to purchase the DDP.

Of course they are....

It's guaranted "in the bank" money the minute you get there

It means that the food bills are "out of sight out of mind" (and on the credit card)...and people are more free flowing with their merchandise purchases while they're there....WHERE THE REAL MONEY IS MADE!

And they can increasingly slaughter those paying out of pocket....even more so than the $39.00 8 ounce filet they've just consumed.

It's a small world (of profits) afterall!!!

It also means that a lot of dining plan users don't plan out their meals, and leave credits unused. That's money Mickey gets to keep. I call it a brilliant business move, because anyone who does this is paying for a meal they never ate without actually ordering the food and wasting it or taking up a table at a restaurant.

I agree with this. I know when I went with my mom, she was never hungry and couldn't of cared less about using up every credit, and if we hadn't been splitting meals, we probably never would've gotten through every credit.

I've contacted the CDC and requested this type of behavior to be classified as an infectious disease...."wedisneolemmingtonitis".....

they haven't gotten back to me to let me know if the name is a go....will advise:)

Exactly! And by upping the prices it makes the DDP's make a whole lot more sense. Not only that, most people are somewhat fanatical about adding up what they would have paid if they had paid OOP and when they see they have made "great" savings, they won't be obsessed with using all their credits. It's a really smart business move.

Now that I saw this I am going to re-evaluate our decision NOT to do DDP... UGH! My TA is going to have my head for dinner if I keep making changes!

But thanks for the heads up! The character meals are a must for us with the little guys and a desire not to stand in line for days at a time to get autographs. Still do it for the ones not a meals, but love the interaction when we can get it!

I just hope that at least quick service dinning is offered for free to value resort guests in September. I will then pay the extra to upgrade to regular.

My dd is 12 so that's why we weren't going to do DDP. But after reevaluating, or obssessing, since we do a lot of buffets if was worth the switch. We are doing Cape May buffet twice and my ds 8 meal alone is more than the daily dining plan price.

Ya, I think this is exactly what Disney wants. For more people to reevaluate thier decision not to buy the DDP. They just have to justify the price increase for it somehow. I don't see us ever buying the DDP. But the deluxe DDP seems like it has some value in it, and I think that that may become the most popular version at some point.

This makes offsite even more attractive for us. I realize that we are in the minority though.

I'm not going offsite (dont' care to pay for a car) but I won't be doing any buffets and will be using TIW at restaurants, and ordering a couple of appetizers and maybe a dessert if there's one that turns me on.

If you are on the DP it won't affect you. But for people paying OOP, it's a big difference.

Eh- yes and no. Since the tip is no longer included, it helps to have an idea ahead of time how much you'll be spending on the tips. Or maybe that's just me because I'm an overplanner ;)

I agree that it does affect the tip with anyone of the DDP, I hadn't thought of that. I'm a solo diner, so an extra $1 or so wouldn't really make me notice a difference in my wallet, but I could see that really adding up for large families.

WOW :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I guess that means if i dont do DDP, i wont be doing much table service ... thats very expensive! even with disneys huge portions!
