Here is our situation.....We were on the 2/7 Eastern and we unexpectedly rebooked with the masses. Being unprepared, we didn't take an 05 school calendar with us. We got quotes for several dates, but not knowing when our spring break would be, we took the 2/12/05 Western. We took a stab at an April date as a comparison and the 4/9 was quoted at the same rate as the 2/12. After getting back to reality and getting into some sort of routine, I checked on spring break. Turns out that the 4/9 would be the start of our break. I called Disney tonight about switching the date and it turns out that the price would be over $500 dollars more than it was a week ago and that included the 10% discount! We are new to Disney cruising and their pricing policies, but I really have a hard time believing that the price of a cruise that is over a year away can go up that much in one week. Has anyone else run across this situation. Any ideas on how I could get them to give me the price that was quoted last week? The person I spoke with was very polite but would not budge. I was hoping that maybe there was a back door that I don't know about yet. Thanks in advance!

You could keep checking or try a travel agent, but unfortunatly quoted prices are only valid at the time they are quoted (that is true of any cruise line). If you did not hold the reservation at the quoted price they will not honor the price you were quoted, they can only honor what is avalaible at the time that you are calling. There are many variables that could change the price even as simple as the agent that quoted the original price mis-quoted... Did you make sure that the new quote was exact to the old one... I mean the same category room, insurance (or no insurance), transfers (or no transfers)...etc... a lot of times they add all the "stuff" in even if you did not ask for it...

I know this isn't exactly your $500 +, but our sailing is OVER a year away and the price has already gone up $200 since I booked. This is just for 3 people in a cat. 10 so it wasnt that expensive to begin with.

Duh, me. I was thinking about the dates for Easter of 2004, not 2005. From what I understand the prices of staterooms increase as certain tiers of bookings are reached. It doesn't seem to slowly increase with each few bookings, but as a particular level is reached it does jump significantly all at once.

I would assume that this is what happened, as many schools release next year's calendars around now and people's plans were firming up for scheduling for next spring break. They must have reached a pre-set level and prices jumped.

The price for our 5/2004 cruise, booked about 10 months ago, has increased $3000 for a category 6. For whatever reason is has been a very popular cruise and the prices for it went up fast and furiously. REALLY glad I booked when I did!

We had a similar thing happen about 1-2 weeks ago. We made our reservations for March '05 then 5 days later our family members called to get their res. and were quoted $600 more.

We were told that Disney adjusts the prices as they start getting more reservations.

Our 12/4 cruise has increased 600 in the past 45 days for a cat 10. It is now 1500 more than what we paid for it. :)

I believe the date is correct. According to the Disney site the cruise is 4/9-4/16. I don't know about a misquote...that may be possible but I had it in writing from Donna. Still, your explanation does sound more believeable than the price just increasing that much in a week.

Also, if you went with the cruise that sat better for the school break, it will be holiday season according to disney & the prices are ALWAYS higher during holiday season. Think about switching your ressie to DU, then you could at least get the cash back, that would make up some of your price. Sorry, but good luck!!:D

I think it's more likely that you were misquoted originally on the price- but I don't think it's IMPOSSIBLE for the price to have gone up that much in a week... since it's around Easter and most schools' spring break dates. That's pretty high on the "popular" times to go, I would think....

Be careful. When we were on board, the rebooking prices we were quoted did not include the taxes and fees (but she did tell us what they were). Based on our booking after we got off the ship, the prices on board had to be adjusted upwards by about $250 to be comparable to the actual price we needed to pay. Maybe that wasn't your experience, but it is possible that the prices are actually a little closer than it might appear.

We were on the Jan 24th Eastern and booked the 29th Western for 2005! In just one month, the price jumped $432.00!

Yes, prices fluctuate rapidly, usually upward. Very occasionall, there will be a price drop, usually in the fall and January.

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about an increase except continue to watch rates and hope that it might come down...or book now to lock in the current rate. You can cancel up to 60 days out and get a full refund. If you are talking about school vacation dates, they usually go up and up and up as the dates approach...sorry.

We are booked on the April 9 -16 cruise. I was told that the Easter Break being in March next year rather then in April was supposed to make the price better not worse. I also understood that you have to book the repeat cruise while onboard the ship in order to get the discount.

If you received the quote in writing from DCL and you had reserved the other week - would they not honour your quote??? I was told by my TA that Disney would price adjust if the prices were to go down.

Best of luck - hope to see you on the April 9, 2005 Cruise.

P.S. If you have any CDN friends you might want to check out prices from that end - they are sometimes cheaper due to the exchange rate and special deals the TA's work out with Disney.

Our Feb. Eastern for 4 cost 3600.00 CDN (2500.00 U.S)

we are on the 8/21 eastern, my DS and family thought they would join us, for a CAT6 GTY, we paid $4900.00, they current price is $6816.00!!!! Needless to say, they are not joining us!

Bummer...

I booked our March 5, 2005 Eastern back in early February. Two weeks later, it went up over $400. I'm glad I locked in our rate when I did.
