Preventing motion sickness?

I've read that MythBusters supposedly proved that ginger works the best. Anybody out there try it? I used to be able to ride anything without getting dizzy. Now I get dizzy just watching the carousel. I'm willing to give Bonine a try, but if ginger works better...

So mission space: green version is do-able for us queezy types??? :confused3 I didn't try it, I was too nervous about it :scared:

absolutely.........no spinning involved. however, if you are claustrophobic it meay be a challenge. 4 team member are squeezed into the capsule and you then pull down the restraints over your shoulders. the screen area moves down towards you face and the seats will recline as you take off. all the action is on the screen in front of you with each person having specific buttons to press at specific times. this is not a queezy ride. i got queezy on wild arcic (seaworld) and space tours - this is nothing like that - IMO

I also get motion sickness from reading or riding, really, in the car but I am fine with rollercoasters. Though I love Mission:Space, by the end I am a little sick to my stomach. The airplane ride to Orlando gets to me, too.

I cannot take Dramamine. Even the non-drowsy kind. It makes me extremely drowsy and I will sleep for the next 24 hours no problem. So I take Transderm, the little circular patch. It is a life saver. You put it on an hour or so before your activity (in my case, getting on the plane) and it is good for the next three days!

One problem is that it is by prescription so you'd have to either go in or make a call to your doctor.

another fan of Bonine. The generic version works as well, but tastes terrible. you can just chew the bonine tablets and they are good for 12 hours. DH uses them all the time since he is prone to getting car sick, but he doesn't need it for rollercoasters (go figure?)

I can't do any circle rides, even Cinderella's Carousel. However the "ride" that made me the sickest was not Mission Space - orange. It was the Virtual Reality Aladdin's magic carpet at Disney Quest. I swore I was about to fall off the seat and barf all over the place. I spent the rest of the day at DQ playing ski ball, trying to recover.

Ginger pills.

They work just as well (if not better) than Dramamine or Bonine, but without side effects.

I used Bonine on our last trip and it worked very well. I noticed a huge differance. Good luck to you.

Transderm Scop is the way to go if you don't mind getting a prescription. It's a little round patch that goes behind your ear, and last for 3 days. It is waterproof so you don't have to worry about swimming or taking a bath with it.

I am pretty sensitive to motion sickness and was able to ride anything I wanted to. The first two days are the best and on the third you can tell it is starting to wear off a bit, but it still works.

Only side effect I noticed was a little dry mouth, but nothing a water bottle won't cure.

Do you have any dosage info on these? Where are they available? Thanks!

You can get them at any drugstore (or drugstore.com) and you take them as needed.

You can also use fresh ginger (not terribly convenient) or candied ginger (expensive.)
