Pretty toys vs. dirty work boots

My toddlers have a housefull of wonderful toys, but they'd rather play with my dh's big, black, dirty, steel toed work boots. I don't get the entertainment factor for them. The boots don't light up or play music or roll around or anything cool like that.

When mine were little, they much preferred the box over whatever was in it. Kinda makes you wonder why you spend so much money on toys.

Most kids have way too many toys..........it's simple, really, they like them BECAUSE they aren't bright and pretty and make noise or roll around!

Same reason kids like the boxes toys come in better than the toys themselves!

Saying that, I am trying very hard to clean out my kids' playroom, and darnit, I have a hard time getting rid of any of the toys they don't want. The ones they don't want are the expensive open-ended ones that I want them to have. The ones they do want are the one-armed GI Joe copies and the Planet of the Apes guys...................that I'd just as soon get rid of!

Hmmm . . . My theory on why kids like toy boxes so much is because the box is designed to catch kids' attention on the store shelf. They were given a Fisher Price Learning Home for Christmas by my parents. I kept the box to use as a spacer for a large doorway that our pressure baby gate was too small for. They play with the box (when it is not in use) as much as they play with the house.

I have toys at my house for when my graddaughter comes to visit but the only ones she wants to play with are the dogs' toys. She will play with their balls and squeek toys all day long before she plays with the nice Fisher Price toys she has.
