Have any of you been the week of Thanksgiving? I would love to surprise my family with a trip and that would be a good time for us to get away. I know it is crowded Thanksgiving Day and the following weekend, but what about the days leading up to Thanksgiving. In the past, we have been spoiled by going in September (no crowds--though it was hot) so I would hate to get there and find long lines.

What about the week after Thanksgiving?

Also, are the Christmas decorations already up by then? I've always wanted to see them but December is just too hectic for us to get away.

Thanks for your help in making this dream come true!

Hi and welcome to the DIS!

Many decorations start going up in mid-November. By Thanksgiving weekend they are all up at the parks and resorts.

The Thanksgiving crowds start building the Saturday before and continue to grow all week.

If you are looking for smaller crowds, the week after will be a better bet.

Enjoy!

We went the week after Thanksgiving this past year. The crowd level was great; we never waited for any rides. The temps were nice too, although that can vary each year. We had to take our DDs out of school for the week and I also had to miss a week of school. But as they get older, we just cannot continue to do that...so I have been considering the week of Thanksgiving this year. I know the crowd level would be greater, but how bad would it be? :confused3 (Compare it to Spring Break, Memorial Day, or July 4th)

Week after is much better if you get a choice. I'd go down for Tday and relax and see some of the less popular things, and then Monday after Tday you will be enjoying fabulous Xmas decorations and having short waits.

The week before is pretty good until about Tuesday afternoon. We saw the crowds surge on Wednesday and by Thursday it was very crowded.

The week after Thanksgiving has much lower crowds (a lot of people leave on the Sunday following Thanksgiving).

Last Thanksgiving we did the parks 3 days before Thanksgiving Day, skipped the parks on Turkey Day, then went back to the parks for another 2 days. To tell you the truth, I did not notice the change of crowd level on the days leading up to and after T-day. The were about the same, in my opinion, and were hassel free. The lines were about a 15-20 min max. on all the rides.
