you put 2 quarters ( usually, some cost more) and a penny ( old ones that are all copper work best) in a machine that presses the penny and imprints a raised picture on it, like Mickey with a surf board or in a safari outfit ect. they are all over the place and make great and cheap souvies!

From Disney:

"Also called elongated coins, pressed pennies are created when a coin is squeezed between two rollers, one of which has an engraving on its surface. As the penny is flattened into an oval shape, the engraving roller permanantly presses a special picture or message on it. Penny-pressing machines here feature Disney characters, theme parks lands and attractions, and special events."

It's an inexpensive souvineer, it costs $ .51. The machines are everywhere at WDW and they sell a little book that you can keep the pennies in. If you go to guest relations at the parks, they will give you a list of all the pressed penny machine locations.

I've never stayed at CS, but my list says there is both a penny and quarter machine at the Jumping Bean arcade. The penny press designs are the Princess Series #2 of 6 Cinderella, Cinderella 2 or 5 and Seven Dwarf Series #1 of 8 Dopey. The presses quarter is Carpenter Mickey 2 of 5. They designs come in a series. -Stephanie

My DD (9) had a blast doing this on our last trip! We took someone's advice on this board and used the cylinder mini M&M containers and filled it with 2 quarters & a penny to the top, then it was easy to get out what we needed. We didn't use any list, just happened upon them most of the time, or would ask. There has been lots of discussion as to whether you should use old or new pennies, we thought the new pennies looked best. They have some streaks, but really look great.

we used the 35 mm film canisters to hold the pennies and quarters ( clear ones for already pressed ones, silver top for quarters, black top for pennies in my anal retentive obsessive planning gotta do it right way overboard way) I also cleaned the pennies pretrip with tarnex ( someone posted something else to use but I had it already) but next time would do it afterwards...or maybe both times:rolleyes:

DS6 *loved* the pressed penny machines on our last trip in 2001 .... so I dutifully saved quarters and pennies for our recent trip, to the tune of four rolls of quarters (granted, I was also saving for the laundry machines). This trip however, DS really didn't show a strong interest in the pressed penny machines. Go figure ....

We happened upon them last year at the EPCOT world showcase and thought it would be fun to get them from every country. So then we just started getting them as we came upon them. I bought one of those books I will have to get some more this year.

I have been saving quarters and pennies and have a big bag of them right now. Half the fun has been finding the "shiny" pennies even though I know you can clean them with tarnex.

Like everyone has said, it is an inexpensive souvenier but also since I started collecting these instead of other things it takes up much less room in the suitcase.

mom2cinderella thanks for the link...I printed out the list that will help!
