Is the plural 'pennies' or 'pennys'?

Anyway, does anyone here collected pressed pennies from DLR?

If so, can you post some photos of them?

Do you have a book or something to put them in? (Can you get those in the parks?)

I don't have any but I'm thinking about possibly starting a collection on our next trip.

(I think I'm a collect-aholic. I've recently gotten into Disney pins and Vinylmation. It's a good thing I don't go to the parks that often anymore!)

I don't have any pictures, but while we were there, we started a collection for our 3 year old (well, and me too ). I'm not sure how we are going to display them. He now has them in a little coin holder we got at Sea World.

P.S.
I am a teacher and it is spelled "pennies". You change the "y" to "i" and add "es". ;)

They have penny books available in the store on Hollywood blvd. in California Adventure next to the Animation Building..

I am sure that they are available elseware, but this is the only place I remember seeing them.

I collect them but I only get the ones I like; I'm not at all interested in collecting them ALL. Which is good, because there are a lot of them! I do tend to get multiples of my very favorites, though. :flower3: I do tend to pick them up at any non-Disney location that I'm visiting that has them, too. I got one from scenic Indio California on our last trip, at the very same service station where Jimmy Swaggart picked up a "date"!

I just keep mine in a Disneyland treasure chest that came with candy in it.

You can see a lot of pictures at http://www.parkpennies.com

There are Penny books avaliable all over Main Street but the Penny Arcade is the most obvious place and has the largest concentration of machines that I've noticed.

I've not too obsessive about them but I will get ones that I think are cool. There were some Ride anniversary ones on our trip last month that I got.

I've been putting mine in a small penny book I got at WDW back in '01 and finally filled it this past trip. I'll probably get a new book on our next trip.

Sorry I don't have any photos but we bought our girls a Disneyland pressed penny booklet at the Adventureland Bazaar for under $7

One of the best pressed penny tips I read, that we use, is to get a tube of mini M&Ms and layer it with 2 quarters and a penny, two quarters and a penny, two quarters and penny...until it's full. Then you're all set! We usually get paused by airport security for having a tube of metal, but it's always okay once I explain :-)

Remember pennies after a certain year are just coated and look funny pressed. Try to only use full copper ones.

We too just get the ones we like.

I have some pennys my las trip to DLR on 2005, only I collect those that I like. later I will place photos of that I have. Next November I will go again and I hope to find new designs that I like. °o°

I was going to ask about using only the copper ones--I think that's ones that are dated before 1982, right?

***Edited to add...I just went through a bucket of pennies and found 14 of them dated before 1982. Not bad for a Canadian girl, I had more US pennies than I thought! I found a tip online--mix 1/2 cup white vinegar with 2 tsp table salt. Stir until the salt dissolves and put your pennies in for 5 minutes. I just did it and they look new! So now I have clean and shiny copper pennies (pre 1982) that will work great in those machines. Am going to start keeping my eyes open for more pre 1982 pennies. 2 more weeks!

How many of the machines take coins other than pennies? I'm sure I read somewhere that there are dime, nickel and quarter machines too?

Thanks!

I've seen nickel machines around but I think pennies are the most common. Here's a few I found in my drawer. The Wall-E is a pressed nickel.

I'm glad that tip worked for you! I tried it before, several times, and it's never worked for me--no idea why.

What DID work OK for me was putting some of everything acidic I had (Del Taco hot sauce packets, lemon juice, pepperocini juice) with salt in a plastic water bottle. I put the pennies in, shook the daylights out of them, and waited a while before rinsing them. About half the pennies came out beautiful. Some had gunk on them that the acid did not remove. But for the amount of effort it took, I was pleased with the results.

When I got change for a quarter at the Main Street arcade, I got several pennies that were pre-1982 and shiny, so with any luck that will work if you're in a pinch. Most were dated 1959, which I found really weird--anyone know what's up with that?

Yes there are machines that take other coins but not as much... Here's the website http://www.parkpennies.com/

I don't really do anythng with my pressed pennies. My cousin makes jewelry out of them so I'll be grabbing as many as I can for her on my next trip.

If you really are interested in actually actually collecting them there's a list of avaiable machines and locations here. You can print out the PDF and use it as a checklist for the ones you'd like.

Wow...I think my girls will have a ball...didn't realize there were so many machines there...guess I really never paid attention.

Thanks for that link, I don't think we'll keep track although my daughter started reading the machines earlier and wants to find specific ones now! Very neat, thank you!

Oh yeah! They are everywhere! Especially when each machine has a few different selections. Needless to say my cousin has a big old list and a big old bag of change she's sending me off with come September. Can't wait until she finally makes me one of her rings out of a pressed penny. I love them.

That's why I loved the list. Made sure I had all of my Snow White ones and wasn't missing anything!

Ooh...what a great thread! I collect pressed pennies everywhere I go and have most of the pennies from DLR :goodvibes It's definitely a good idea to bring your own pennies but it's not necessary to bring your own quarters as there are change machines at the Penny Arcade and other locations where penny machines are. Plus, you can always get change from the cashiers at the stores that they are located at.

The store in DCA next to the Animation Building is called Off the Page and they do sell penny books there. You can also find penny books at the Emporium on Main Street, World of Disney Store in DTD, and the big store in Tomorrowland.

Here's the penny books that I got from my DLR trips and my Disney penny collection :goodvibes Sorry the pictures are a little blurry though...

Our niece collects them and has anybody that goes, look for new ones for her. If you forget your list you can stop by City Hall and they have list there for you.

So does anyone know of a good source for clean brass pennies? I tried the salt-n-vinegar thing on the few I had in my pocket and, while it did work to some extent, they're a far cry from the newer 2009/2010 pennies. But I don't want zinc "bleed" when they get pressed so I'd rather use the older pennies. I suppose I could gather a big batch and let them soak longer and scrub them but I'm lazy. :)
