Which pennies are the best ones to use for the pressed penny machines? I know I have heard on these boards before, but I can't remember.

ETA: Is there a list with the all the pressed penny machine locations?

You want to try and find pennies that are mostly made of copper. Pennies made after 1982 are mostly zinc coated with a thin layer of copper. When the penny is pressed, the zinc comes to the surface and is oxidized which makes it very hard to see the design. Try to find pennies made before 1982.

I know I've seen a list before of where the pressed penny machines are located, but I don't remember where that was...

When we went to WDW in May, my family had a wonderful time searching for the machines and pressing our pennies!

Definitely all of the countries at Epcot.

:tinker::tinker:

presscoins
is where you can look for all of the pennies
(I don't have enough posts to add a link)

Is there a guide for where the pressed penny machines are? Our 5 year old will be all over those

There are tons of them. You're sure to run into them almost everywhere. :)

I don't know which has the best or most accurate listings but you might want to check these places. The first two are Disney-only sites; the third is more general, but it includes WDW coins.

Ashanna thanks so much for the links! My 5 year old will love this.. heck so will I!

(Glad to see another Kentuckian on the forums too!)

If memory serves - I seem to recall hearing Canadian Pennies were good.

Just for the record, Canadian pennies are NOT good for the machines.

Pre 1982, cleaned or un-circulated are best. Some of the new pennies come out fine on the "softer" press machines.

City Hall and Guest Services in the park will happily get you a penny guide to that park. And websites listed above are great references.

And my personal opinion- don't try to get EVERY one, it can drive you crazy (though I have done that for DL's 50th and for World Showcase), but concentrate on the characters you like and logos that mean something to you. They are a great souvenir because you can look at one years from now and remember that time perfectly.

Have fun.

Sorry for the misconfusion.

I remember reading something about Cdn pennies. It may have been complete opposite to my recollection, as you pointed out.

ok... so now the questions still remains... What are Cdn pennies good for? :rotfl2:

Thank you so much! When I go to Guest Services to get a penny guide, does it tell what the pennies look like? I'd rather just know the locations and sort of do a scavenger hunt for which ones I like best.

Thanks for the info on the links and penny types :flower3: DD5 and I just raided her piggy bank and found $6 worth of quarters and enough 1970's pennies (which are now soaking in vinegar) and we will have 4 a day to do on our trip! :thumbsup2
