I want to get a pressed penny tube ready for my niece and newphew for when we go in January. Question though, do the pennies and quarters need to be American? Can we get American change here through a bank. I plan on getting the M&M tubes, making labels and then fillling them alternating 2 quarters and 1 penny as the boards have suggested.

Quarters have to be American and American pennies work better than Canadian ones

That's how we did it but note one thing! How will you be bringing them with you if you are flying?

We packed them in our carry-on.... three M&M tubes filled with quarters and pennies. Wonder what they look like thru an x-ray machine!!!!! Needless to say, that bag got inspected!!!!

I figured it would in advance so I put all the change in a ziploc with the 3 empty tubes. The guard took the bag out and I explained what they were for. No problem from then on.

I think next time I'll exchange momey for coins while we're there.:surfweb:

We had the same problem with the M&M tubes when arriving at Orlando airport in 2005....the guard said they appeared "solid" and she had a really serious look on her face. I'm not sure what they thought the tubes were. So we learned to carry them and the coin seperately now.

By the way, not sure if you know that you can find a pressed coin collection holder in the gift shops at the parks. Also here's a link for more information on the designs and location of the machines on WDW property. Have fun collecting...we did!:thumbsup2

My DH and DS are collectors of the pennies. We often found change machines not to far from them. My DH also asked the CM's for change and if they had new pennies. They new exactly what it was for and never gave them a hard time about it. :goodvibes

Try to use only new US coins in these machines - some of the Canadian pennies come out pressed with black streaks in them - something about the coin being made of an alloy rather than just copper....or so the CM near the machines told me!:confused3
