I am wondering about the pressed pennies in WDW. About how many types are there, and are they in all 4 parks? IS one roll of quarters and pennies each enough to do them all? Can I find the books that you put them in in the gift shop at the resorts, or only in the parks? About how much are they? I'm thinking it would be a neat and cheap souvenir for my nieces when we go. They will also have autograph books and pictures, and Epcot Passports. Am I setting us up for failure? This is their first trip, and they will be without parents, so I definitely want them to have plenty of stuff to show their parents/ grandparents when we get home. I also like the pressed penny idea for myself. Is there a guide out there to tell you where they are? I have several of these things kicking about from various other trips to other places, but the idea of a book that you can organize them in is awesome!

We collect pressed (my kids call them squished) pennies. I saw the book for collecting them in the parks. Not sure about the resorts gift shops. I don't know if there is a list of places to find the machines but we just look as we are touring the parks. We don't go on a mission to find them but if we see one we alway get one. At each machine there are a few characters/designs to pick from. It is always so exciting to find them and I think it would wreck the suprise element if we knew where they all were.

This is the website that I have found to have the most complete and accurate listings:

http://www.presscoins.com/listings.php

Because there are so many pressed penny machines, you might pick a couple of "sets" for them to complete and look for those specific pennies.

The books can be found both in the parks and at the resort gift shops.

That's quite a list of pressed penny machines. I am afraid we'd waste all our time looking for those machines if we had to do everyone. I like to just happen to see a machine and then have to get the pressed penny. I like the element of surprise when we find one.

Just an FYI when it comes to the M&M tubes with the coins. I didn't pack them into my luggage. I kept them with my carry-on luggage. Make sure you take them out before they x-ray them. It never occured to me and it took forever to find out what was showing up on the machine. :rotfl: I can't blame them-----two small solid (on machine) cylinders might look a bit scarey to them!!

When we were there last january my 8 and 9 year olds went to the front desk at the resort we were staying at (Yacht Club) and asked if they had a pressed penny machine (They had started collecting on our previous trip)........the service person not only answered their quuestion but gave them a printout that showed every pressed penny location in WDW........and it was very accurate............

I have been to Disney 3 times and collect the pennies and quarters. I Believe that there are penny machines all over the world including the resorts. I have 3 completely filled penny books and still haven't collected all the coins. On www.allearsnet.net I found a complete list of penny locations. Hope I helped!

You could spend probably 10 rolls of quarters and pennies on them..... they are in the hotel lobbies too. There are probably 6-8 machines at the Contemporary all with 4-6 different designs. They do sell the books to put them in at the park. Buy more than one, haha.

My DD5 likes pressed pennies, so before our last trip (Nov 06) we found the list posted above. Unreal. I did the math back then and it was like $500 if you really wanted to get ALL of them. Not to mention the weight of carrying THAT much change around...

But that's OK - although we gave up on getting ALL of them, it was nice to have the list, because for instance, we realized there was one machine in every Epcot nation. So we made a game of getting one penny from each.

The pressed penny site has good info, like the 'cutoff' year for pennies when the metal content changed (older looks better). We sat at the kitchen table and sifted through thousands of pennies to find a hundred or so of the older ones. Lots of fun!!

We did this same thing. My DD6 saved her quarters and pennies prior to our trip. Everyone at work was also giving me older pennies. I even washed the pennies...in vinegar, I think.

We had a blast looking for machines. I think we filled 3 books on a single 6 day trip! And yes, when you figure $0.51 each, it isn't cheap....but it is fun!!

About how many pennies fit in each book? One roll of quarters will get you 20 pennies, so should I plan on 2 rolls per kid to fill a book? Or more? I don't really want to way them down with change. And I think one book per kid is enough.

36 pennies and 6 quarters in each book. We used the quarter slots for more pennies. We didn't do the quarters because they cost $1.25 each (1 quarter to press and cost is 4 quarters).

I will try to post a picture of them

You just get all caught up in it. And most machines have 3 designs. It got to where we wanted all 3 in the machine. Maybe it was 4 per machine?

This is what I like most about Disney - the depth of the experience.

People standing in the same place could be doing very different things:
- penny hunting
- character hunting
- waiting for or going to a ride
- looking for hidden mickeys
- Pin trading
- appreciating the effort (gardening, architecture, etc)
- taking a break from the above
- watching others do the above.
- maybe other stuff too

Awesome! We found maybe 300 old pennies in my coin stash - and decided to whittle it down for weight reasons, so we brought maybe 75. We didn't clean them - good idea - That'll be a project for this fall's trip!

Once we got there, it was the kids' (DD5 and DD2) first time to Disney so pressed pennies kind of dropped on the priority list. We still got maybe 15 or so. We'll do more next time.

One nice feature - I've NEVER seen a line at a penny machine!!

We also like to get them from other non-Disney places where, needless to say, ther isn't such an overwhelming number of them.

I wonder what the least popular pressed penny is - like, the ugliest design on the hardest-to-find machine. You know Disney must have that stat somewhere.

Yeah, start with one book and set a goal to eventually fill it. If you accomplish that, then get another.

As for change, we'd just try to stay 3 or 4 dollars ahead of the game by asking for quarters when buying things (lunch, drinks, souveniers). That way we never had to carry too much heavy money, but always had enough when we stumbled on a machine.

I don't know how that might work if you are paying for things with a room key or credit card. Come to think of it - we had a room key. I guess I carried a $20 or two for incidentals - and that's how I had the change. Plus, many of the pressed penny machines are 'conveniently' located right by cash registers, as if to capture any change before you put it in your pocket for good!

I think we are definitely going to have to give this a try. I will get each kid 2 rolls of quarters, which will make just enough pennies to put in one book. Now the hunt is on, I need to find some older pennies, and I need to find someone going soon who is willing to buy and ship me 3 pressed penny books so I can put them in their bags! Woo Hoo!:cool1: Why 3? I feel the need for some squished pennies of my own!:lmao: So...any takers on shipping me some books?

Hi! They can be found in all four parks. There are also several different types. I doubt one roll of quarters and pennies is enough to do them all. I've been to Walt Disney World several times in the last few years & have not seen the book to keep them in. They probably have it. I just haven't seen it. My DH & I collect them also. We like the surprise of walking up on one or just finding one then purchasing a pressed penny. We enjoy them. :cool1:

I read this thread quickly so I hope I'm not repeating this. If you go to City Hall in MK they will give you a list of machines all over WDW, resorts included!
