I know that pennies made before a certain year are better then more recent ones but I can't remember what year. I know someone here can tell me. Thank you!!

I think it is 1982, but I can never remember for sure, so I always just save pennies from the 70's.

I'm not sure what year is better, but we just got back and all three of my kids did about 35 pennies each and they all turned out fine. I just grabbed all the pennies I could find and I shined them up with Tarn-X before we left, so they all look pretty good. Be sure to get the books to hold them in and bring a lot of quarters too! Have fun.

Not sure of the year, but it's pennies that were all copper that work better. After a certain year they made them with copper and zinc. Sometimes when you mash the copper-zinc ones, the more tin colored zinc comes through and doesn't look that great.

Also if you're really a smashed coin nut, I bet if you used a really old all-silver quarter it would look nice.
