Pressed Pennies & MM Containers

We put our pennies/quarters in a small ziplock bag, the real tiny ones that could hold pills or something. I don't like carrying a bulk mm container.

Just FYI: does everyone know about the www.intercot.com website that lists each penny available and it's location? I have mine printed and ready!:jester:

Thanks for posting. NO I didn't know about this!!! This is a big help. :wave2:

I'm looking on e-bay for pressed penny books. Does anyone know what they cost in the parks? I'd hate to spend more than I should. Thanks.

We just did the pressed pennies for the first time on our last trip and my DD (9) enjoyed it. We used an M&M case and bought a pressed penny book (I don't remember the price). She had her own across the chest purse that she used for her pressed pennies stuff and autograph book. Everything worked great until the next to the last day when she left the M&M case at the American Pavilion and we didn't realize it until we were in France. (that was the fasted I've ever walked!) Luckily she had left it at the Kidcot station and they had set it aside. We also collected pre-82 pennies, but used a few new ones and decided we will get a shiny new roll next time.

I posted this a page or two back but I just got one that holds 20 pennies (they have other sizes) from pennycollector.com. $5.50 including the shipping.

Has anyone tried using the new mini Reeces Pieces containers? They are oval, and I am hoping that they might be just the right size for the pressed pennies.

Also, you can use vinegar and salt to clean the pennies (1/4 cup white vinegar per tsp. of salt). Just put the pennies in for 5 minutes, maybe stirring occasionally. They come out shiny. However, be sure to rinse them in water immediately or they will turn green later. Also, the oxygen in the air will almost immediately start turning the copper brown again; a ziplock bag can help.

My kids and I turned this into a science lesson. We used the vinegar and salt to remove the copper oxide from the pennies, then removed the pennies and rinsed them in water. You can then put nails and screws into the vinegar solution, and they will turn a copper color (or darker) as the copper is deposited on them.

You can do a google search on cleaning pennies and science expiriment.

I could be wrong, but I think the pressed pennies are bigger than the Reeses tube.
