407 or so dead since the "end of hostilities" and all Bush is concerned about is gay marriage. Georgie needs to quit looking for WMD and Axis of evil and worry about the home front!

I have several friends out of work and in the immortal words of Bill Clinton "It's the ECONOMY stupid". (I don't think Bill's other immortal words fit here? Can you guess them?)

By the way, as MUCH as the airline industry would like to blame terrorism the truth is that MOST of the majors were in pretty bad shape pre 9/11. They have just returned to the status quo. Southwest was strong financially before hand and is in good shape now. Airline costs are too high and we passengers want CHEAP tickets.

I'm of the opinion that the economy ebbs and flows due to MANY other factors than who is in office. The economy was starting it's turn down while Clinton was in office....it really tumbled after 9/11...now it's starting to turn around again (slowly). You could argue that perhaps decisions Clinton made started the economic down turn. Let's face it folks- a lot of the reason this country was SO economically successful in the 90's was the computer industry- no industry can maintain that white hot demand the tech field had for awhile- it trickled down to many other types of jobs (assembly, customer service, I could go on and on)...what we saw in the 90's was something very rare---unemployment being that low is what I am really emphasizing. During the majority of our nation's history, a 6 or 7% unemployment rate was considered good or fair- not dismal as it's being painted currently. That 2-3% unemployment rate we had for a couple of years just couldn't sustain itself, no matter what president was in power.

I support Bush for many reasons...I believe that yes, it is disheartening and very, VERY sad that many of our men and women in uniform have died while in Iraq. But think of how many innocent Iraqis were murdered or would have been murdered while Saddam and his sons were in power. It's sickening. Perhaps there really aren't any WMD in Iraq; I don't know. I am glad that we went in and liberated that country and hopefully we will be able to hand the reigns over to the people of Iraq shortly and they can have a democratic country too. I support Bush because I believe tax cuts help average Americans like myself- we have more money in our paycheck- we will spend more money, that's for sure (we do anyway---can you say trips to Disney!). I happen to be conservative in my values, but that doesn't mean I do not care about other people or am not a progressive thinker.

Thanks for letting me share my thoughts...

Actually, it would be better for the government to keep that money in times like this, because its known that most people don't go out and spend all their tax cut.

Can't recall the example my economics teacher gave. Something like out of a $300 check, americans only put $30 back into the economy.

I agree! I stand by Bush too!
Hey Crazelion! You say you will vote to get Bush out?! What if Bozo the clown was running against Bush?...Oh I just remembered, Clinton was already president!

My mother always told me not to discuss politics or religion. This thread looks like trouble to me!

I am voting for President Bush because I respect him and his leadership. Of course, the wonderful thing about America is that we all have the right to voice our opinions and to vote.

LMAO! AspiringCindy, you sound like my relatives;)

I PROUDLY support Bush and letting some joker in like Kerry won't solve anything, it will just flush our whole country down the toilet! My family made some comments when we were last together of moving somewhere else if Kerry got elected....I may take them up on that offer;) :D

Yes the airline industry wasn't in the best of shape. But 911 had a devastating impact. Lost jobs and revenue were far reaching.
And I would assert there is still an ever present impact.

The following information is from the International Air Transportation Association's website:

http://www.iata.org/911/market_financial_update.htm

The estimated domestic loss for the US in 2001 was $18 billion (International Air Transportation Association).

"...Recovery is slowest among the U.S. carriers. Passenger confidence has largely recovered, but traffic is remains below pre-September 11 levels as a result of continued economic uncertainty and increased travel times due to heightened security precautions. US airlines are attributing a significant loss of business to passengers avoiding travel due to "hassle" of dealing with current security procedures – The Hassle Factor."Delta Airlines estimates that loss of business resulting from the 'hassle factor' will amount to over US$ 600 million in 2002. The day trip has basically disappeared from many business agendas and the costs of spending a night away amid an economic slump has meant that business people are finding alternatives to travel," noted Bi signani.....

Can someone please tell me why they support Bush?

Why do people respect him and his leadership?

I'm really curious because I do not see it.

I'm not voting. I don't care who wins.

Sincerely,

Can someone please tell me why they support Bush?

Yeah, I can. I will vote for Bush because I vote with my heart/morals NOT my pocketbook. I stand with Bush because he protects the sanctity of life, marriage and the family. And, he serves the same Master I do....

That being said, I do not believe that Bush is responsible for the inevitable ebb and flow of the economy, which was faltering before his term started. I suppose Clinton could only "cook the books" so long before the truth had to come to light....... too bad he was able to do it "long enough".

My dad sent me this email today. I thought it was pretty funny, figure its related to the poll somehow :p

It's funny how Clinton is brought up on virtually every political thread. It just goes on and on and on....

4% unemployment is the threshold for for what's considered good or fair. 6 or 7% people are feeling pain. What is scary about this current recovery is that it is taking too long to create jobs--we need to create 125,000/month to absorb new workers--and that the recent drops in the unemployment rate is because people have given up looking for jobs.

I support him because he is more concerned with the security of the United States than he is with trying to win an unwinnable popularity contest with the rest of the world.

I support him because he realizes that his first responsibility is to this country, not to the United Nations.

I support him because he realizes that I know better how to spend my money than the government does.

I support him because he says what he believes is right, whether people like it or not.

Because regardless of his PRIVATE life, he was a good president. The only way to bash him is with Monica.

I love how the country was ready to hang him for lying about a s** act but Bush lies about BRINGING US TO WAR AND KILLING OUR SERVICEMEN and we're fine with it. :scratchin It really makes me wonder.

For all of you that will vote for him based on his Christian principles (that the Christian Coalition pay plenty of money for), just remember lying is lying and it is wrong. Even though he has pushed his little inquiry back, I hope they rake him over the coals for what he did.
