If we wrap presents ahead of time will they get unwrapped by cruise security before we get on the ship?

This is just a guess, but my guess is that it is possible. They can run stuff through the X-ray machine, but if they need to inspect it further, then you have to unwrap it. This is the way it works on airlines.

it would only happen if the items that are wrapped are questionable. they do get lots of wrapped gifts going through all the time (think birthdays, anniversaries, christmas, even fe's) so it would take them to long to unwrap everyone of them. your probably good to go but they may request it be done. may
wrapped bottles may be the most questioned.

could depend on the present..... a shirt, probably not. a clock radio or some hand held radios, probably so.

Last year I brought along a wrapped watch and a Nintendo DS. They were both in my suitcase and were not unwrapped.

We took wrapped gifts for my daughter's birthday a couple years ago and they didn't even glance a second time at them.

I think if you were flying you would have a much more troublesome time getting through security. Anything placed in the luggage should be easy to get on board. Pro Tip place your wrapped items in a plastic bag, this allows things to rub up against it (the bag) instead of the paper which lessens the potential for rips or tears in the paper.
