WDW is complicated!
We are Disneyland vets, we usually go twice or so a year. This year I was lucky enough to make it down four times. Two trips with the family and some solo days associated with work/side trips. We know the place fairly well.
WDW, not so much. Never been, have been reading a lot the last 6 months, but wow, so much to digest.
So many things to contemplate, this is the first time I have done a pre-trip report, mainly to ask the DIS community to be my sounding board. Steer me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
Cast of characters: Me (44), DW (45), DD (18), DS (13), DM (64).
When: December 2015. Exact dates still up in the air, but currently targeting December 12-21. What are the typical days for the Xmas parties?
Where: Looking at a serious split stay. Current plans are to start at AKL for 3-4 days, head to Universal for a day and a half (staying at one of their hotels for a day), then 3-4 days at the Grand Floridian (maybe Poly-we are lucky enough to go to Hawaii frequently-so not so sure of changing to here-I assume most if not all of the construction will be done by the end of next year).
We will need two rooms the whole time, so the discounts of renting points sounds real good right now. The math still points to renting points versus booking directly with Disney or a discount room broker. It really looks like literally half the price. Kind of scary renting points though, you are locked in! More research needed, but it looks ok when going with one of the renting companies. Any real difference between the main two?
I guess I need to check out one of the touring websites to really lock down days for which parks, which may sway where we stay and when. AKL is out there, but it looks so nice. Which view? Are these sites accurate a year out on predicting which parks to visit for the day? Do they show stuff that far in advance?
I plan on renting a car. We will probably use Disney transportation from time to time, but I like the idea of being able to get up and go when I want to with a vehicle. I understand parking may cause some additional walking. Are there drop off zones? My DM has some mobility issues from time to time, so if I can spare her from walking the parking lots all the better.
Ok, that is enough for now. More info to come when I have time. I plan to do a whole lot of research during the xmas break-more questions to come!
