Prescription Swim Goggles?

Has anyone ever had/used prescription swim goggles? DS is 6 and has +10 in both eyes (think coke bottle glasses). We are going back to WDW in September and want to do the snorkeling at Typhoon Lagoon. The problem is that with regular goggles he will not be able to see any thing.

We have not been able to find any goggles his glasses would set into (ear pieces removed) and aren't sure what to do.

He is going to take swimming lessons so they would get used. Any suggestions or advice?

Something like this should work, there are better options out there though and potentially a little cheaper I just did a quick search for the idea.

I wouldn't just order them online if you can avoid it as its important to get a really good seal around the eyes. I would check local dive shops. (Yes they are everywhere, we even have them in Wisconsin)

They will be able to help out alot getting something to work and might even have goggles that can fit his glasses. I would only go to a dive shop that offers training and has a dive master on staff if possible. Think of a golf shop with a golf pro, they for sure know their stuff then or at least hire competent people.

Quite a few years ago, I ordered prescription swim goggles online. LOVE THEM! I just asked my eye doctor what was the closest thing to my prescription (which sounds like you already know) and got them. Even though my eyes have changed a bit since then, since they were pretty expensive, I still use them. I bought them from one of the diving-type places online. I use them at water parks, swimming pools, Discovery Cove, etc.

Had them for Discovery Cove, did NOT have them for Typhoon Lagoon. Let's say that there was a big difference in enjoyment between the 2 (that, and the fact that I figured out how to use the snorkel)

I got a pair a few years ago and they leaked horribly. I took them back and the optics place sealed them with some sort of calking and they still leaked! So my experience with them wasn't the best, but I was also swimming for sport, on a swim team, and had practice 2-3 hours a day. For someone who doesn't need to use them quite as intensely as I did, I would suspect they would work well.

I'm 5 and 5.5 in my eyes, and just offhandedly mentioned goggles at the optical shop a couple of years ago, and I wish I'd done it sooner! For a whopping $30, I got some nice-quality goggles (small style - not like for diving) and now I can SEE when we go to the waterpark! This was a mom & pop glasses only (no doctors) place, but they actually had them on hand, even. I'm not sure why (maybe the close/tight fit?) but they suggested going 1 step less severe (they're in whole # increments only) than my actual Rx, so mine are 4s, but they're wonderful to have. It takes a little bit (5 minutes or so) to really get used to them because my eyes water like when they do the lens changing in eye exams, but after that, I'm very happy with my purchase.

I wish I knew where you went! They tell you to go 1-2 steps down because water is naturally a plus 1 or so. That means they had done them before and knew what they were doing.

http://meadows-optical.com/ I'm not sure where you're located, but maybe they could do a phone order for you and ship. They're SUPER nice and we've gone there for probably almost 10 years. We first went there because I wanted some motorcycle "goggles" (sunglasses but w/ gaskets around the lenses to keep dust out) and the local Harley store folks recommended them. The goggles were a BEAR (to keep it family-friendly ) for them to make due to the thickness, etc., but they did a great job and I've still got them. We (DH wears glasses too - I'm sure it's just a matter of time for DD) go there for all our optical stuff now. If you give them a try and mention the HORRIBLE motorcycle goggle project from years ago, they'll probably remember me.
