Has anyone gotten any kind of prescription pain medication from their doctor to use while at Disney (or elsewhere)? I have been dealing with this for over a year with no relief. I am just wondering what kind of pain meds are out there that will do the job to help keep me walking (with hopefully not making me too drowsy). Anyone?

I can't say this enough...honestly...Rent an ECV!

I have been dealing with it in both feet for over 6 months and nothing has really helped. My most recent advice from my doctor was to use a boot and it has been in there for almost 4 weeks - 4 more to go! - and it feels GREAT when it is IN the boot...but as soon as I take it off for any reason, it starts hurting again.

My dr told me that I could definitely not walk in the parks and made me rent a wheelchair...I took a trip in Jan and March and didn't rent one and was miserable. Then I rented one in June and last week and it made ALL the difference in the world! I actually enjoyed my trip! Both of them! I was not in pain and had no idea how bad it was making me feel until I was able to get off my feet some while on the trip (using the wheelchair)...

I just can't say it enough...rent an ECV or wheelchair...it will change your whole trip...in a good way. Don't worry about the stares from people wondering why you are using it. Don't worry about it at all...if you are hurting in Disney, it is no fun.

Just spent $500 on custom orthotics in hopes that it would help-didn't. I am really hoping to spare myself yet another expense caused by crappy feet!
Would really just like some meds to get me through the 10 days.

I have chronic PF and manage it well most of the time, but I get a scrip for Mobic about 2 weeks before we go, and start taking it then. That way it in my system for the trip. I usually geta total of 30 days to deal with post trip inflamation as well.

I was put on several different anti inflammatory drugs for PF and the best they did was upset my stomach. They did nothing for the pain. I have found that wearing the shoes with better arches helps my feet and the best for my feet has been the Addidas slides with the memory foam as it conforms to my feet. The problem now is that they changed the style over the past year and I can't find any I like again.

I second or third the recommendation of the ECV. It is hell with that much pain walking the parks. I still do it but hate it and am considering if we do this last minute trip than I may just rent one.

I take the generic form (Meloxicam 15mg) of Mobic routinely once a day for my PF. Works wonders. I was at Universal August 29th-Sept 4th and for the first time my feet weren't killing me. I could actually get out of bed in the morning pain free.

I agree 10,000%

I went kicking and screaming into a scooter 2 years ago following an accident. Achilles injury and knee injury. The trip would have been cancelled but DH begged me to try a rental scooter.

I finally agreed and decided to turn lemons into lemonaid and completely decorated my little rental scooter. I made a pouch for the back seat to carry water or jackets, I got holiday decorations for the basket, little bike bell and squeaky horn.

I have had to taken narcotics for pain on two trips.....the first and a year later following knee surgery which ultimately did not solve the problem. They didn't make me loopy at all. I will try to do without them this next time.

One tidbit of advice, scoot around a little in the parking lot to get comfortable with your wheels.

Yes, seeing the World from the seat of a scooter is different. We could not do as much - but part of that was because my condtion is painful.

What we DID find is, the trip was even MORE magical. We traveled at a slower pace and we saw more. We laughed as we did Seabiscuit vs. War Admiral races uphill (I was seabiscuit, of course), we noticed things we would have flown past on prior trips.

After Illuminations - when World Showcase was empty - I would scoot to the music all over the place. DH said I was figure skating. Security stopped me once - probably thought I had enjoyed a few too many mojitos! When I told him this was the only way I was actually FREE of pain....he laughed and sent me on my way.

Now we face another trip with a scooter. Doctor just said he would prefer I use a scooter and not further damage the knee (I had hoped to be scooter free this time). I was desperately unhappy to do this again. Anyway... So.....I'll sip my lemonaid and we will rent a scooter.

Don't travel in pain. Please consider renting a scooter. Everyone here will be happy to help you plan.....they were tremendous help to us the first time.
