Prescription med's in original container?

I think I read on this site somewhere that when you go on your cruise, you need to bring you prescription medications in their original containers. Is that true? Why?

I order my prescriptions thru the mail (90 day supply) and the bottles are BIG. I don't want to pack those big bottles.

Any help would be appreciated.

That's also what the disneycruise web site says to do.

My guess is that it's so you don't have a hassle getting back thru customs or with laws in any foreign contries (if you carry your meds with you).

you might want to check with your doctor and see if you can get a prescription filled in a standard size just for the purposes of the trip.

Most pharmacies will give you an extra labeled bottle just for occasions such as this. Just request an empty labeled bottle for travel.

Not only is it necessary for customs, but if something happened to you and you weren't able to return home when you planned, the bottles would give you the information the doctor would need about what you take, the dose, and stuff like that.

I have the same problem with our prescriptions and I haven't found an easy solution yet. It's especially difficult with one of my DW's medicines because it's a large capsule and she takes them twice a day, so they send a bottle that will hold 180 of them.

I just try to get prescripitions filled locally in the standard 30 day supply and then hold onto the bottles, even though it costs more. A prescription is valid for up to a year so you can keep the bottle and reuse it within that time period.

Other than that, I just have to drag them along no matter what the size is.

We use Caremark and lately, it's been a chore just to get the prescriptions filled at all. I'll ask them about smaller empty bottles for travel, can't wait to hear their reply!
