Prescription Glasses on Rides & a Splash Mountain Question

I know like this might be a weird question but are there any rides (other than California Screamin') that you would not wear prescription glasses on? I'll likely be getting new ones (prescription change) just a few weeks before our trip and I don't want to lose them. However, I'm as blind as a bat without them - as in I can't see this screen without them - and wouldn't enjoy the rides as much. The Unofficial Guide mentions a ride or two where riders almost lost their glasses so that's why I'm asking.

Part 2 is about Splash Mountain. I know the ride doesn't have bench seats and can accomodate 5 people. Would our daughter be able to double up and sit in front of us but in the same "seat/section"? I ask because she's used to this on our local amusement park's flume ride. If it helps, she's 5 years old, 45 inches and only 40 lbs.

Splash has 5 single seats and a 6th row that can accommodate 2 (with restrictions), so it's likely you can ride with DD5

I ride upside down coasters, including Screamin', with my perscription glasses on and have never had a problem. I believe you'll be okay! Enjoy your trip :)

I ride all rides with my glasses. I just wear one of those glasses holders but my fiances doesn't and he'a never lost a pair either.

This situation arouse this past Thursday on Screaming during the countdown! I usually wear contacts, but wasn't then! I held on to them, which pretty much ruined the ride, next time I took them off. Had no problem on racers or splash.

My husband keeps his glasses on when riding rides, even Screamin'. He did lose a cellphone while riding Screamin' because he tucked it in his shirt pocket. He says the gravity pushes his glasses on and he doesn't feel that they'll fall off.

DH only takes his glasses off for Screamin. He doesn't worry about them on any other rides. You can also get a strap that will hold them on if you're afraid they'll fall off.

The strap can really take away the anxiety of losing your glasses so that you can focus on enjoying the ride. DH usually keeps his glasses on, other friends put their glasses in the velcro pouch in front of the seat, other friends use the strap -- whichever makes you feel most comfortable so that you can enjoy your day at DLR more.

I keep my glasses on for rides, but I always worry right before the ride starts and make sure they're securely planted. I usually check them throughout the ride too, but I'm a worry-wart. A strap would be a good way to make it feel more secure. There are a couple of exceptions - I take them off if I'm in the front row of Screamin because the air hits you so much harder there. The first time me and my SO got the front row it took us by surprise and we literally had to hold our glasses on the whole time. I also sometimes take them off for GRR, but not because I'm afraid they'll fall off, just because as soon as they get splashed I can't see through them anyway.

I've tended to take them off for water rides because, well, I can't see anyways. I might get a strap when I get my new ones so I don't have to worry.

I don't remove my glass for any rides and I ride them all.
I have a strap for when I go fishing, I'm afraid of losing them in the ocean.
But for Disney they stay on.

I don't have a problem with my glasses at any ride in Disneyland. Actually the one that used to freak me out was space mountain, but once I got used to the ride, it doesn't bother me.

I do take off for any water rides for the reasons above.

Screamin it's probably advisable to take them off.

I completely understand your worry. My daughter lost her prescription glasses when riding Dragon Challenge at Universal Orlando. She's also blind as a bat and we ended up spending the better part of our day (and a good chunk of money) getting a new pair of glasses made that day. However, that ride has twists (lateral motion while also going upside down) which caused her glasses to fly off. Disneyland's only upside down coaster is, of course, California Screamin' which doesn't have the lateral shifting when going upside down. Nevertheless, when DH rides CS, he always keeps a hand on his glasses on this ride (eldest DD refuses to ride CS or any other upside down rides since the incident). The only other ride at DLR where DH is cautious about his glasses is the former ToT (soon to be GotG). Funnily enough, this is my oldest DD's favorite ride and she's never been concerned about it.

After DD lost her glasses, we bought her straps to wear with her replacement glasses when she went on rides for the rest of our trip at UO and WDW. She didn't want to wear them on our last couple of trips to DLR, though, and hasn't had any problems. DH, eldest DD and I all make sure we pack either contacts AND glasses or bring our previous pair of prescription glasses as backup on any vacations now.

I haven't been on these rides but got a glasses strap from amazon that I wear when I go say Great Wolf Lodge or to a beach. Works well (so far at least :tilt:)

For somewhere between $3.00 and $10, you can buy rubber "stay puts" for your glasses if you don't want to deal with a strap. They just slide onto each side and wrap around the back of your ear. They slide on and off easy, so if you didn't want to wear them all the time, you could just keep them in a pocket and slide them on right before any thrill ride. My DD (11) has had to have them on her glasses since she grew out of the little kid glasses because she has a ski slope kind of nose and has never had a pair of glasses that would stay up without sliding without them. she wears her glasses on all the rides at both WDW and DL except for Splash and GRR/KR. She will not do California Screamin, but I think she left them on her second ride of RNRC last fall at WDW and was fine. Splash and GRR/KR she says the minute she gets any kind of splash, that she can no longer see out of them, or they fog up, so she hates them on the water rides. As far as Splash-- DD actually feels much more secure on the DL single file version than the WDW version (which has benches). Even if there is a seat back between you, you can reach forward and put your hands on your DD's shoulders from behind her, so even if you aren't double seated, it should be okay.

It depends on what kind of glasses you have. If they're plastic rim, they could fall off. But mine our metal frames that hug my face, so I don't worry too much. However, on Screamin' I've taken them off a few times. When I leave them on, I start to worry because of the turbulence and the wind. I can feel them start to shake on my face and I get a little panicked.

I always worry about mine on Screamin', so I wear them till I get on the ride, then put them in my bag. I have never tried any of the retainers. My husband never worries about them and never takes them off. We have never had a problem.

It sounds like the water rides are the only ones I really need to worry about. more from it's hard to see through wet glasses. DD isn't tall enough for California Scream' so I might not go on it.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
