Hi, I am going to attempt to write a pre-trip report. My youngest son is a Make a Wish kiddo and I am super excited for him. We are a family of 6, containing 4 boys! I am queen of the castle.

So, here we go:
Cast of characters-
Me (Riali) 32 I am the Disney addict of the family. I have managed to convert my husband (to a point) and most of my boys appreciate some level of Disney. I am a type 1 diabetic and have been for 26 years. I wear an insulin pump and that manages to keep things interesting at times. I work at my boys school part time and spend the other part of my life taking care of my boys.

DH (Chris) 35 I met my husband in a college sign language class. We didn't date long and to his family's disappointment:rotfl: we were married pretty quick. But we are approaching our 15th year anniversary this year and are pretty proud of that! He is the calm, easy going type, I on the other hand am his complete opposite. He is a huge help, especially on vacation!

DS #1 (Jarrett) 12 Jarrett is our oldest and has high functioning autism. He is very intense in certain areas and has managed to teach me exactly how much patience I have or don't have. He is very into BSU football and is a clogger (which I LOVE). He also has a cecostomy tube and does daily flushes. He is interested in the workings of Disney and has expressed that he would like to dance for Disney someday.

DS #2 (Keegen) 10 Keegen is our gentle giant. Keegen is very slow paced, easy going, helpful kiddo. There are days that I could not get by without Keegen's help. He is very into animals and science. He loves Bill Nye the Science Guy and pirates. He is the "favorite" brother because he is so gentle-minded.

DS #3 (Marshall) 7 (next week) Marshall is the typical little brother. He is a little on the intense side. He is sharp as a tack, though, and will be glad to let you know. He is very into pirates as well. He is a rough and tumble boy and loves to play.

DS #4 (Prescott) 4 Prescott is our wish kid. He is a sweet little boy that has faced a pretty rough road so far. Prescott was born at 35 weeks with a concealed abruption. He had to be resuscitated at birth due to respiratory distress. He was put in the NICU where he was doing well until his 3rd day of life. Up until this point he had been weaned off of the ventilator and was going to start feeds. But then the worst day of my life happened, Prescott was overdosed by the hospital with magnesium. His level was 15.6 (normal high for an adult is up to 2.5:eek:) Anyway, after going into respiratory arrest and being put on the oscillating vent, loosing deep tendon reflexes, and pupillary response, it was figured out and my little boy was saved. He spent 21 days in the hospital after that. In the hospital he had hypertension, seizures, and feeding difficulties. All of those problems are still a part of him today. Prescott is developmentally delayed to about a 2 year old level. He is mostly non-verbal, he does have a few words and can sign. He has a chromosomal deletion, a feeding tube, carnitine deficiency, an immune deficiency, MRSA, hypotonia, reflux (fundo done), asthma/lung issues, seizures, chronic sinus infections, hypertension, hemifacial microsomnia, soft palate issues, dysphagia, fatigue issues, suspected mito, and more. He has had over 15 different surgeries and too many procedures to count. However, he "looks" pretty good. He is a sweet boy that is obsessed with trains and "Key" his word for Mickey Mouse:smickey:.

Prescott had a pretty complicating approval for his wish, but we got it!:yay: Prescott was referred to Make a Wish when he was 3, but his family dr. wouldn't sign off on it because "he did not have a death date". So, we sent it on to one of his specialists. That dr. (S) said he would "help us out". Within that same week, his nurse (not the nicest lady in the world) called and said that (S) "did not feel comfortable signing it", this was in April. I did question her if he really looked at it, but she said that he was sitting right there. So, I dropped it. I never got the Make a Wish denial letter, though. Then this past October Prescott needed to go to the Mayo clinic and our community had many fundraisers for Prescott and someone referred him to Wishing Star. We switched dr.'s about that time, so I called MAW and told them to not send any info to our old family dr. The lady replied that she was "sorry for not calling sooner, but Prescott's dr. (S) had signed off on Prescott's wish in September!!!!! So, then Wishing Star called and said Prescott had been approved for a wish through them. So, I had to decide between MAW and Wishing Star. So, I chose MAW and here we are.

He wished for "Key's Home (signed)". My husband and I both work in the school district (As well as my oldest son is a bit obsessed with Star Wars), so we asked for June 2013. We asked to have my mom go too. She is a nurse and she helps us with Prescott and is a huge part of his life, but that got turned down. So, we will be going without her and calling a lot. We had our wish reveal today and I am so excited!!!!!:cool1: We found out that the month of June was approved and we will find out final dates later. So, now I just plan, plan, plan.

Hope that works for a pre-trip report. Thanks for letting me share in my excitement!

We had our wish reveal today!!!!! Our wish granters came over with a fantastic mickey cake!!!!!!!! It was perfect, still haven't eaten it because it was so cool!
SmallerMickey.jpg

The wish granters presented a cake, balloons, and some whistles (which scared Prescott terribly:scared1:) They revealed to Prescott and his brothers that we were going to WDW!!!!

They told us that our month chosen was a go and that they will let us know exact dates later. :) So, we ran to the dr., because Prescott was/is not feeling well. Then I came home tonight to work on my disboards stuff.

Prescott's going to WDW!!!!

That is fantastic news. The photos of your family are lovely and the Mickey cake is so cool hope it tasted as good as it looked! Really looking forward to hearing all your plans. Xx

Your family is beautiful. All the boys are so handsome.

Buglet,(our wish kid), sends a hello out to Prescott.

I am so sorry to hear you all had such a tough time. Reading about the mag overdose made me cringe. It is hard when things are based on human error, but God must have a very special plan for you all.

We are heading to Mayo for a week of testing in January.

I'm so glad Prescott gets his wish! Your boys are adorable! I can't wait to hear all about your planning! We are going the same time frame May/June depending on when Star Wars Weekend is!

So sorry for all Prescott and your family has gone through. All your boys are so handsome! Congrats on getting the wish, excited to hear about your planning.;)

Thanks for all of the comments. My little guy has been pretty sick this weekend. So, it was a lazy weekend for all of us, which meant more time to try and plan. Hard to do without know exact dates so we are going with the suggested dates we gave MAW. So, we will plan with those dates. The worst that happens is I have to plan another week (obsessive planner here, lol). I want this trip to be the best for my little guy! So, excited for him! So first big planning decision; Is Universal worth two days?:confused3

That is cool! My oldest is really into Star Wars. So, June has an added bonus for us. We requested the dates May 31st and then are extending it till the 9th. (I hope). That would be fun if we were there at the same time! You've been waiting for dates for a while haven't you? Is it driving you crazy? Things have been going really fast for us. I am super impressed with our MAW!

Thank you! You, too, have some good looking boys! Prescott has an immune deficiency too! It is hard to not treat him like a bubble boy. Unfortunately, the infusions won't help him, his is a selective IgA deficiency. He is on propylactic Augmentin, though. Even with that we ended up with croup, an ear infection, possible strep, and a beginning of a skin rash this weekend. :confused3 He also has been pulled from preschool for this year and last due to high number of infections. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and thanks for your kind comments. I'm excited to keep an eye on your progress as well.

Yes, I had a really hard time eating the cake. :rotfl: But with the support of my husband we have nearly eaten the whole thing! I appreciate your kind comments and am looking forward to the planning!

That would be great if you get to extend! I asked our chapter and they said no :( But I have heard of a lot of people on here get to extend so I hope you are one of them!

As for the waiting. Yes! We have been waiting since last spring! It has been hard at times! Typically our chapter likes to have everything done within 6 months but since Trev's wish was specifically to be a Jedi during Star Wars Weekend and that was already ending when he decided what his wish is so we wait.. I'm REALLY hoping they announce dates in the next couple of days! It doesn't really seem real yet as we have talked about it for 6 months now with no dates or anything!

That would be great if we were down there at the same time! Are you guys planning on doing a day at SWW then too?

Jackie

You have a beautiful family. So sorry that Prescott, and your family, has gone through so much. Will be praying for your family. Glad that Prescott wil be getting his wish to see Key. Yay for your reveal - the cake is amazing! Sorry the whistles scared Prescott. Hope you get to extend. We know all about wanting to use a bubble - Angel's ANC was zero for a couple of months after her diagnosis.

So, after surviving a month of passing around illness around our house, I am knocking on wood as I say, "I think we are done". I was sicker than a dog on Christmas day which was the topper to this "virus". We all got it, so about 6-8 weeks in all. Yuck! But our Christmas was amazing!
Prescott got especially blessed by the Christmas spirit. I got a box in the mail before Christmas addressed to Prescott. It was full of presents wrapped for him from a complete stranger. :goodvibes She said she was from an organization called "Dare to Share", I have never heard of that organization before. But she had wrapped up toy trains and clothes for him (I don't know how she knew about his illness, his likes, his size, or our address :confused3). It was so sweet! We have never really had anyone do anything like that for us, ever! We are kind of isolated from our family and aren't real social beings, so it was incredibly unexpected. It still puts such a good feeling to know that there are such nice people out there. So, I will be sending out a letter of thanks to her soon.
As for our wish trip, I am trying to learn patience as I really want to sit down and plan everything out. :) I am pleased to see that Star Wars weekend is during the week that we requested. I am trying to decide whether to do IOA or legoland, so that is what I am choosing to research about this week. :bitelip: I really do hope we get our requested dates. Prescott "asked" to see "Key now?" So cute!
Anyway, health wise he is doing good aside from his chronic loose stools. No infections this month. So, thats a holiday update on us. Hope the holidays were great to everyone else.

Sorry to hear you all have been so sick! Glad to hear everyone is finally on the mend. That is so sweet that Prescott got blessed by a stranger! Hopefully you will hear dates soon and get the dates you wanted.

Jackie

So sorry the family has been sick for so long. Glad your Christmas was amazing and that Presott received such a wonderful surprise. Glad he is doing well, continued prayers for his chronic loose stools. Yay that Star Wars weekend is during your requested dates - hope you hear soon & that you get the dates you want.

Hi! Your boys are ADORABLE!!!! So happy Prescott got his wish!! You will have a ball!!! I guess thinking about what Prescott likes best would help you decide IOA or Legoland...I havent been to either recently, but is he more into legos or superheros or dr seuss or ???? lol....fun choices to make!!

Did they approve your dates yet???

Wendy:goodvibes
