I was just wondering if the no shorts rule applies to preschool age children? My DS grew out of alot of his "nice" pants over the summer and I was hoping to put off school shopping and new pants until after we get home. He has an outfit for Tritons but I wanted to know if it would be ok for him to wear "nice" short outfits for the other nights. (like sailor outfits etc.) Thanks!

Well I know OUR cruise would just be ruined if we had to eat in the same room as a little boy in a sailor outfit with shorts.:p

You could dress him in anything you like as long as it makes you happy. Life is WAY too short to worry about what a pre-schooler is wearing on vacation. Let him wear his cute outfits and most of all let him enjoy himself too.

DCL specifically states that for kids under 13 it's totally up to the parent's discretion as to what they wear to dinner. :)

Your son will look ADORABLE in his shorts outfits! :)

Just letting you know that in June, my 5YO wore shorts every night to dinner. I saw no use in dressing him up just to have to go change after dinner so he could go to the Oceaneer's Club.

Nobody said a word and he had a blast!

I would put a toddler in shorts, nice ones that is. First cruise, my son did have to wear long pants, per me, but then he was 8. I think that was old enough to adhere to the dress code of no shorts. He did not wear a jacket but did wear a tie on formal night (that's only on the Magic so you don't have to worry about that!). Little ones look adorable in nice khaki shorts and golf shirts IMHO.

Stimpy, I don't know about your son, but if I tried to dress my 3 yo up in fancy clothes, he would be miserable and that means we would be miserable for doing it. Let him be comfortable and enjoy himself, after all it is his vacation too.

But - there is not much cuter than a toddler all dressed up. Seeing little girls in their princess dresses always brings a smile to my face... and the little boys with dress pants and shirt tails hang out... too cute for words.

Well that is certainly a relief! Thanks everyone!

The week before we go on our cruise, DH, DS and I are all in my sisiter's wedding party. DS is NOT looking forwardto the fact that he has to wear a tux! I didn't want to have to force the poor guy into wearing more "fancy" clothes on vacation.

I dressed my 3 year old in Princess Dresses and sundresses for dinner....she loved being all dressed up and she had a blast. I really didn't notice what other kids were wearing though....only thing I tended to notice was guys coming to dinner with tank tops and back hair hanging out..I don't even like to see that on the beach!!...BLECH!
