I always feel like I have to send a goody bag to my sons preschool for every holiday. Does anyone else do this? A lot of parents bring them and my son enjoys the junk for about 2 seconds and then I throw it away. I started buying another round of stuff today and it was going to be like $30 and I started thinking is this really a good way to spend my money. For valentines day I bought them all a kite ($1 each at walmart), I put them in everyones cubby and my son didnt really seem to care anyways. I will feel bad if I dont send them and bad if I waste $30 on them!!

I never did and it really made me ??? when any other parents did. A waste of money IMO. My theory at school has always been to bring stuff for parties, etc. but nothing that isn't asked for.

Sometimes, but not always. Never have for Easter though as we bring in eggs filled with candy for the egg hunt. For Halloween, I did - found little miniature pumpkins and filled them with candy corn, wrapped in cellophane. Christmas, no, as they draw names and bring in a present. Valentine's - sometimes - but it snuck up on me this year, so I didn't.

3/14 parents sent in goodie bags for Easter in my son's class.

If you want to save some money buy the 24 packs of Crayola crayons in August. Wal-Mart sells them for .19 cents. I usually buy several dozen to send in for my 3 children during the school year.

My opinion is that every kid I know already has enough junk. Junk is an equal opportunity kind of thing, too. It isn't as though the poor kids don't have too much of it also!

I always send in stuff for my DD Kindergarten class. I normally bake for them too. I am the baker in the class and I have known her teacher for years so whenever something comes I bake for it. We did heart shaped cupcakes for valentine's and groundhog cupcakes. I send in goody bags for Christmas and Halloween but I never did for Easter. It easier and cheaper to bake but I know not all schools allow you to bring in homemade things.

Thank goodness you said this I do not feel so alone.

I am a total geek on this stuff..Ava is our first so I have no clue on what to do. Our wonderful preschool tells us when to send things in. For Halloween, I made spiders (mind you I am the least crafty person in the world) a little black cloth, pipe-cleaners,google eyes and candy inside...everyone else gave little treat bags...oops, Okay valentines day..I did treat bags with target stuff, fruit snacks, bubbles little things..It was the only treat bag..I felt so silly.

So to answer your question, yes- when asked we like to send nice things in..but I still manage to mess it up.

Well, I love all holidays and it's a tradition for me and our kids.

I sign up for providing food or treats for my 2nd and 5th grader for at least 2 holidays or I just volunteer to bring goodie bags or some store bought treats.

I stay away from plastic junk like from the Oriental Trading Company, though. I try to make it fun with some usable stuff (balls, pencils, small coloring books, etc.) and some edibles like a bag of fruit snacks or crackers. Or I will make goodies like themed cookies or cupcakes and hand them out at lunch.

I am also on the Hospitality Committee for my kids' schools' and I cook for the teachers when they have meetings or other special luncheons and such or if they need items to be brought in like water bottles or purchased food I try to oblige when I can.

That's just the way I am. ;)

I send in food platters, veggie trays, cupcakes or cookies....I used to send in bags but would rather spend the $$ on our family considering those little trinkets get broken and lost too easily!

I've never done it and no other parents do it at DS's daycare either. They do have class parties for all of the holidays, so maybe that's why. I just dropped off 2 doz plastic eggs and 2 bags of candy for the easter egg hunt on thursday. For christmas the kids pull names and we're asked to bring a $5 gift. We bring valentines for valentines day, etc. FOr the parties, we're also asked to bring something..cookies, juice, etc. They even had a St. Patrick's Day party!
