Hello! My nephew is going with us on our summer trip, and he is 10 and on the spectrum. His anxiety levels are currently through the roof. I do not know what assistance/help my sister is currently getting him but I know that he panics at so many things right now. He panics if he thinks he is left alone, and if he hears any sudden noises or feels any sudden movements he can break down.

He flew on planes when he was younger, but hasn't since he was about 4 or 5. In his mind, this is his first time flying and he keeps telling me how scared and nervous he is to do it. I am very worried about bringing him on a plane again, because of his anxiety. Driving is not an option, as our tickets have already been bought.

I want to start preparing him now for noises, sights, and motions he might experience going through security and on the plane. Does anyone know of any good youtube videos or resources that are out there that may be able to help me?

Check with the airport and see if they do a run through. Some airports have a service where you can 'practice' before your trip.

I should've added that we are flying Southwest out of Dallas! But I will look into that, thank you for letting me know it's a possible option!

There are a few social stories out there too. I got a couple of books for my son when we were going to fly. I'm at work so I don't have them, but I'm sure Amazon would have a list.

This is a program that really can help some kids. I don't see Dallas for an upcoming event (Baton Rouge is the closest one) , but the videos may be extremely helpful.

A couple tips I would offer would be headphones in case the engine noise is bothersome. I would definitely ask the gate agent to allow you to preboard as well. We do this for my ASD son since he gets anxiety when we're in a line a not moving (like the long line waiting to get to your seat). Southwest was awesome when I explained our needs.
