We have never gone in the summer and I swore I never would!! However due to my youngest daughter making the gymnastics team our trip in April had to be postponed. My points have to be used by Nov 30th this year. My oldest daughter gymnastics season goes from August to December. Sooooooo I have a pretty short window when we can go. We are looking at the end of June into the beginning of July.

Tell me how crazy it will be?

Crowd wise?
Weather?

Should the plan of attack be: to hit the parks at opening and leave by lunch time to enjoy the pool? We get to go twice a year (usually) so we are not die hard park people anymore. We have our must do things and stick to that for each trip. I know it will be hot but I am not a humidity person....at all. Will it be absolutely miserable?

Thank you for any input! Also to throw out, I feel blessed we can go as much as we do and I am not complaining about having to go in June. Just trying to plan ahead and figure out what will be best.

P.S. I had borrowed the points in so no choice but to use them. I am not a fan of renting points so not a valid option.

TY!!

We will be going in the middle of June, for our fourth trip. Our first two trips were at the beginning of June and last year we checked in on July fifth. We prefer the early June trips as they seemed less crowded than the July trip. There were also a lot of foreign tour groups. Attraction lines can be slowed down by the large groups of non-English speaking guest. Especially when all instructions are given in English.
It is my opinion that June is the best summer month to go to the World.

This will be our fourth year in a row where we have gone in June and we absolutely love it. Yes, it is hot and humid but there are plenty of ways to beat the heat. For our family, this is the best time to visit. :cool1:

The obvious down sides to going in the summer are the heat and the crowds. The up side is that there are extended hours. There's time to pace yourself and still see everything.

We do our park visits in 3-to-4 hour periods and spend the hottest part of the day relaxing at the resort pool. We then take advantage of the late evenings in the parks when the termperatures aren't as nasty, especially the extra magic hours.

If your April trip was around Easter week I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. We usually go Spring Break but have done June trips too---crowds were not as bad as they are during those Easter weeks.:scared1:

Yes be at the parks at rope drop and head back to the resort when it gets hot and cowded (usually between 12 & 1) We head back to the parks after the heat lessens, between 5&7. We also eat almost all our meals in our villa so the schedule is great for that, just a few snacks in the park.

Once my dd started high school, we changed our trips to summer months. This year, we will be there the second week of June.

The first trip we took in the summer my family was awful. We were so use to touring in cooler weather. By the 3rd day, we had to have a family meeting and totally change gears.

We go early in the morning and go till one person in the group wants a break or lunch time.:worship: We head back to the room where my dh and dd just want to stay in the air conditioned room. I always pick up a DVD from the gift shop and the kids just lay around watching TV. We often do not make it back to the park until after dinner. We do not do a major park every day. We spend way more time in the pool then any of our previous trips.

I am not bothered by the heat and I can not sit still. So, I head out on my own for a walk - mostly window shopping. I am one of those crazy people you see walking back and forth from BCV to HS:laughing:

The longer park hours really make a difference. Since, I tour with teens we usually do most of MK during evening EMHs. We also do not plan on being in a park for any of the afternoon parades. Fortunately, not big deal for my kids.

Please note that if you do not have a reservation yet, you better act immediately because there may be little left. As to late June to early July:

Crowds last week of June are very large but significantly less than the two Easter weeks, although more than other spring break weeks. As you get into July, they will get larger because time around July 4 approaches those Easter time crowds. In any event, expect standby lines for popular rides to exceed 90 minutes much of the day and evening and often go over 2 hours. People start seizing front spots for parades an hour before the parade or even longer despite the heat. You can often do a few things easily in early morning. You will also find that you can often get on some rides fairly easy during the parade and during late afternoon to early evening at any park even though the lines were enormous earlier.

Make any dinner reservations well in advance if you want to eat at any table service or buffet restaurants.

It will be in the 90s daily but that alone is not the problem because even northerners experience 90 degree temperatures. The problem is that it gets into the 90s before 9 a.m. and stays there until after sunset. Also, it does not cool at night as temps remain in the high 70s and even 80s. Extreme humidity. You can sweat standing still outside at midnight. Expect rain, usually a few or more thunderstorms daily often in afternoon to early night. You have a risk that a parade or Fantasmic can be cancelled because of weather. You can also get a bad weather system and be drenched by constant rains daily. When we were there in June several years ago, a storm system from the Gulf moved in the day we arrived and just sat there for a week resulting in rain about 16 hours everyday with a lot of those hours with constant downpours. Nevertheless, that is not usual.

We go almost exclusively in June and have never had any problems.:)
Just follow the advice of several previous posters and go early, break in the afternoon, and take full advantage of the Extra Magic Hours (both morning and evening) as it fits your schedule.

this is the first year that we're going in June also, but we've done August several times so we know what to expect. We said no more summer trips until DH's family said they were ready to go this year.

Ty everyone :) We will be at Disney so that is the important thing!!

I did actually book our room and thanks to the online option now was able to spend an hour finding something. We got Wilderness Lodge for the first 4 nights and then BLT the last 3. So a switch but my girls loved switching mid-trip in December so no biggie there :)

I appreciate the input and advice :thumbsup2

We have gone down in August the last two years so lets talk about the heat!
Def do the parks earlier in the day or after the sun goes down.
There is plenty of air conditioning although I think it is too cold sometimes especially on the busses. Trust me leaving the park after doing Kali and your clothes are soaked..that air is COLD! I always keep a light sweater in my bag to put on in the restaurants or stores.
Buy the kids a mister with a fan and drink lots of water! Your in Disney how bad can it be!!;)

stinking school schedules make us do WDW either end of June, all of July, or early August. Yes its more crowded and humid as can be BUT, extended hours, amazing pools and water parks and those amazing afternoon thunderstorms (we're from SoCal so its a treat for us!). hit the parks early and pace yourself! Then enjoy Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon!
