In order to control Christmas spending I was thinking of getting a prepaid money card or visa/mc gift card. That way I can use it online or in the stores and stay on budget.

Has anyone used one of these. I see that Walmart has a money card with a $3 initiation fee and $3 monthly fee.

Do you know if there are any other better offers for money cards? Do you think this is a good idea or do you have other suggestions?

I have a problem with going over budget in the past and need all the help I can get. It is more important this year because most of our Christmas budget is going to our trip to WDW in January.

Though I normally use my CC rewards to get "free" gift cards to use for Christmas, one thing I do like to do is get gift cards from my local grocery, using my CC that racks up reward points, and I save money off of gasoline. I don't LOVE pre-paid Visas because sometimes if what your buying is more than what the pre-paid CC is worth, certain retailers won't accept it (it'll be 'denied' like a credit card would be). Does that make sense? I prefer going the retailer-specific gift card route, but that's just me.

I would check out a local bank in your area. I work for a local bank in our town that offers Visa Gift Cards for a $3 fee but no monthly fee after that.
