I know! Here we go again! I just can't find the old thread!

We are booked for OCT 14-22 for 1st time at the FW!:goodvibes
MY Dh, myself, our two dd's and my sister in law and 3 nephews. So that'as 8 of us.

Plus if my son can get leave from thr Navy he will join us as well!

Well we have a small travel trailer hybrid that sleeps 5-6; while we could "shove all of us in" I think a tent for my SIL and her kids would be better!

I have downloaded the google map ap and I just can't just decide if we should wing it or downgrade to a prefferd and if so where? With 5 kids we will want to be near the pool and etc.
This is my sister's and nephew's 1st time and I want to have a great time! HELP PLEASE! :confused3

You would have more site room in the premium sites - the preferred for the most part are a lot smaller. Maybe some would accomadate both, but could not tell you which ones :confused3 Good luck!!

No gravel, so not quite sure how you would pitch a tent on the premium sites. All paved.

I've heard of some campers taking foam mats with them. They look just like the foam you see inside expensive camera cases. A clever idea if you don't want branches to poke holes in your expensive tent. Even in the movie "The Blair Witch Project," the actress Heather Donahue used foam pads under her tent. I dunno if they help but they probably do since the foam weighs no more than a half full Coke can and can unroll to a large area. Just a suggestion. I'm not saying you should spend any money looking for this but I'm sure a camera shop or a shipping store might have something like that.

Personally I think I would get a preferred sight or regular full hook up and set up the tent with the hybrid. That would give you alot more room for everyone to downcycle and have more space in the evenings.

FWIW, Im in a similar situation in which family and friends want to start traveling with us to the fort. Luckily, we are only a few hours away so we go quite a bit for short vacations with out 22 foot camper. For these upcoming trips we are staying in the preferred loops and Ill probably set up the tent for overflow and most likely let the girls stay in the camper. We could cram into the camper, but the tent will give us alot more flexibility.

I am actually looking forward to sleeping in the tent again (a giant, roomy Eureka Copper Canyon). I miss it sometimes!

Unless you have a dome tent, i dont know how you would be able to secure the tent in the premium sights. Even with the dome, the tent could be picked up/moved by wind or bad weather.

Good luck!

Ok i called and switched to the preferred. I asked for 1oo loop but after studying the Google earth ap, I'm going to call back and change to 300. And then fax a request for sites 301- 313 outside. I hope the fact that this loop is a pet loop won't be an issue.:lmao:

This is where we stayed on our last trip. We had a tent behind our 5th wheel (which my husband, son and I slept in!). I would think 301 would be too close to road - read hearing buses and traffic (both road and foot). About 1/3 back on the outside of that loop there is nice grassy areas that back up to the gravel pad. It's just before the cut through to the pet walk/canal. It gives a bigger overflow area. That is where I would choose to stay in loop 300 when we return.

Even though we could've all fit in the camper, having the tent as an additional living/changing space was wonderful!

heartsy77,

I think you made the right decision. Hope you can tell us about your trip.

This past Christmas, my parents "splurged" and got a premium site for their smallish trailer (sleeps 6) and our gigantic tent (the tent sleep 8). We were in the 1600 loop and it was perfect... close to 2 bathrooms and not far from the pool or movie/campfire areas. We were able to knock stakes into the ground behind the paved area in the dirt - very few rocks.
