I am thinking of reserving one of the premium sites. Are they really that much better than the basic full hookup sites? Is there any real differnce? Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

The paved pads are significantly larger, and of course the paving is all level, so if you need lots of usable space, it my be worth it. The only other features are the location and the grill is covered (yes, that supposed to be a feature!). You be the judge. We have a premium reserved for December, but only because it was the only ressie I could get (in May!).

I actually went out to check out the park this weekend and other than more concrete at your site there is really no difference. The grill is not upgraded enough for me to want to pay more $$ for and the picnic tables are the same. We're getting cable at all the sites (which we never watch anyway) and the pool is the same (no work done on it yet). I believe only 3 loops have been finished and they are not changing the 1,2,3,15,16,17,18,19 or 20 loops other than the cable stuff. So save the dollars if the concrete isn't important to you. I know for our family it isn't, it's the atmosphere and the location and the people not the site.

Just my .02 cents.

Thanks for the reply! We haven't been there since June 2002. Do you know if they have done anything with either pool since then? I heard they closed River Country. Too bad, that was a fun park if you were staying at the campground.

Pools are the same River Country is gone.:sad2:

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and did the premium spots. Hopefully that way I can get the loop that I want. Now to figure out what loop I want. I have heard that 1400 is good. We don't want to be too close to the restaurant down there as we think it could be loud at night. Is that the case? We did want to be somewhat close to the big pool for a "down day" and definately want clean washhouses for showers.

You might get some noise in the evenings from the Campfire Sing Along and Movie when staying in 1400. I actually enjoyed that about 1400! :thumbsup2

We were in loop 500 last year. It's fairly close to Pioneer Hall and the marina. I didn't think it was loud at all, actually quite peaceful. In fact I felt down by the pool/campfire was more noisey. Though, I did like the 1400 loop. In fact that is what we were going to request for our next trip, until we decided we wanted the premium site. So we requested the 400 or 500 loop again. Have a great trip!

Wow! You pull a camper all the way from Maine! That is cool and you are DIEHARD my friend! I was always nervous pulling my popup ony a few hours away  Thanks for the input! I've heard that there really isn't a "bad" site though. I'm really glad to see gas prices coming down. Hopefully they will get down to 2.5 or 2.75.:confused3

I think a premium site is well worth it if you have a really big rig that is difficult to get into other sites, but otherwise not worth it. From what I've seen, the grills are new (I've never used the grills at the Fort, so that doesn't matter to me), the picnic tables are not new but maybe are repainted (not a big deal, I'm putting a tablecloth on it anyway) and the sites are no bigger, they just have more concrete. That said, I'll pay the extra money to make sure it's mathematically possible to get our 45' motorhome into the site.

We've stayed in the 1400 loop many times, the 200 loop (both of those loops were preferred at the time we were there - not sure what they are now), and the 1000 loop (full hookup at the time), and liked all of them. The 1400 loop was great for its proximity to the pool and the campfire (we didn't think it was too loud - the electrical water parade noise was more annoying), the 1000 loop was great for proximity to the Meadows trading post and pool, and the 200 loop was great for proximity to the Settlement area. I really didn't find any of them to be overly loud, and I'd happily stay at any of them again.

We stayed in the 600 loop, and would recommend it. It is right in between both the MeadowTrading Post/Pool area, and not far from the marina area either.
