Premium Outlets and Publix

How long does that take? It sounds like quite a round about route, although if you have the time and want to save the money it's also sounds unbeatable.

If your lucky with the buses not long, also if an i trolley bus comes first when you get off at seaworld you can catch that its only $1.25 i do this every time we go saves a fortune, I normally go first thing in the morning 1st day there have a look round the outlets go to Disneys character connection( spend a fortune but save loads) walk across to publix get a couple of gallons of milk and Some other bits then go home SSR, i take one of the folding trolleys with me, get them on ebay for about £15 saves carrying it all.

A folding trolley? Oh no, I got something better last year.... I bought so much stuff at Character Connection it called for a request to keep my purchases while I nipped out to get a suitcase :rotfl2: That was after the sales assistants (yes, plural) were asking "Do ya'll have a big trunk?!

Trouble is with the airlines getting tighter with the allowance , we got the owners lockers and go out with nearly empty cases we leave the trolly there to so its no hastle, just love C C :thumbsup2

That is much clearer, thanks. Hmmm, still not sure. TBH it is probably because I have a child with me. I am slightly more brazen on my own. Do you know how big this particular Publix is and what their range is like and whether they have a little section of non food items or nik naks? I don't actually need any food with the Dining Plan, but would really like go go and pick out some of my old childhood favorites for old time sake.

The Publix is a big one and has a huge range. They do have non food items, like toys, stationary, souvenirs and more :) Oh and there's a Walgreens a couple of doors away with plenty of niknaks.

Hmm, I really must take a trip then. I only do one shopping day in a trip, but I like to make it worthwhile. Maybe I should just take a full sized suitcase with me to begin with

Still unsure about the road. Someone said it was like dicing with death to get across, the next person said it is easy. Someone referred to a pedestrian crossing but I don't see traffic lights there, so are the drivers pretty good about keeping an eye out? I don't mean to be funny but the size of the road on the map looks like the speed limit may not accommodate sudden breaking for pedestrians.

Can you not get the iRide Trolley to Publix or does it involve a whole lot of transfers? TBH if it's a huge hassle it may just be worth getting a taxi.

I could not understand the dicing with death comment myself, yes it does get a little busy at times but most times we have been on we see the odd car, its nothing like HWY 192 or SR 535. Its a back road.:confused3

Well I have decided, seeing as I do like to keep an open mind about things, that when we stop at PO I will ask someone who works there if it is walkable and get an opinion from a local. Although most "locals" tend not to walk very much :rotfl: I am sure that the usual common sense rules apply: If you don't want to encounter heavy traffic, don't use the roads at peak times.

I used to cross that road many times a week, I lived right next to that road. It's not dicing with death. Yes the drivers do keep an eye out, in fact a lot of times they stopped to let me go past. There is always a large gap when it is safe to cross. Don't worry about it, you will be fine.

Is it legal to cross at a part of the road that is not a designated pedestrian crossing?

I was thinking of asking that question as well. Last we walked to Hess at DTD and thought, possibly on DIs, someone advised pedestrain crossing had to be used :confused3

Different laws apply to different states, but I am almost 100% certain that in Florida it is illegal to cross anywhere but where indicated. I could be mistaken though. I ask this only because advice on this subject points towards and easy walk/access from PO to Publix however the marked pedestrian crossing is some way along the road. Now distance is not a huge factor to me as we walk a LOT, but being practical, I do need to consider the heat factor and the fact that we are going to be carrying shopping with us.

Darn it, if we were going at the same time we could have all shared a taxi . TBH, Taxi is looking like it may be the way we'll go.

Do you know if it's okay to take bags of shopping into a supermarket (things you purchased elsewhere)?

I know some people prefer not to hire a car at all but I thought i'd just mention what we did last trip in case it helps anyone.

We stayed onsite and thought we'd try without a car for most of the time.

For the weekend though (so halfway through our trip) we hired from Alamo from the car care centre onsite. Alamo picked us up in a shuttle bus at the hotel and we picked the car up sat morning. Then dropped off monday morning and alamo dropped us at HS. So the cost was 2 days hire.

Very straightforward, I would recommend. we actually ended up hiring again the last weekend of our trip.

If you are looking for a couple of shopping days then this may work out cheaper than taxi fares.

Never heard of it being illeagal before, not something I had considered. I know times we have stopped on hwy192 100's of people crossed every night including us across to the Old Town and that road is 10 times busier than the one in discussion here.

I heard this from a cop but still, take it for what it's worth.

If you're swanning across a busy road and people are forced to stop and your actions are generally thought of as being a pain the backside then there's a chance you'll get nicked for Jaywalking (though more likely just 'told off'). If you're crossing a road where there's next to no traffic then it would have to be a very very (very) grumpy policeman to even bat an eyelid. Basically the cop said it's one of those laws that they pretty much just utilise as an excuse to stop someone they are suspicious about for other reasons rather than caring about the actual Jaywalking.

But that said though, yes, technically Jaywalking is illegal in Florida.

I shall watch my strut when in Florida. I don't think a report of being stopped for Jaywalking would go down too well at work :rotfl2:
