Premium Loop Questions

We just booked a trip to the Fort for March. We have reserved a premium site which is not a site category that is listed in my Passporter, so I am clueless as to any info about these sites.

On the Disney Website it states they are bigger and have cable, but that's the same for full hook-ups, right?

Someone help me with the difference of full vs. premium vs. preferred.

Which premium loop is the best in your opinion?

Premium is a new designation, so Passporter (love it!) needs to do an update since about 1/2 of FW will be premium when the conversions are done. It simply means that the concrete pad has been expanded to cover the area that used to be coquina (sand/shell) and in most cases the mouth of the site has been flared more. These sites are much easier for big RVs to get into, since every site at FW is a back-in site. The preferred and full loops still have the coquina pad.

I have posted elsewhere the manifold reasons I love loop 500, and would stay there every time I go premium. This coming Christmas I am hoping for 300 since I am trying to pinch a dollar and go preferred.

Thanks for the reply!! We only reserved premium b/c that's all they had available for the week we'll be there. We don't have a big RV, we have a 5th wheel, so we should have a lot of extra room at our site.

So why loop 500? I guess I need to look at a map:)

The premium sites have more concrete - there's no sand pad in the back; it's all concrete, and the aprons at the front are wider so it's easier to get big rigs in. They also have new picnic tables and grills. Other than that, I don't think there's much difference between a premium and a preferred. We have a 45' motorhome, and although many preferred sites will accommodate it, I have to think that every premium site will. We've only stayed in one premium loop - 400. It was a fine loop and very well located to the settlement and marina area. We also really like the 1400 loop (the outer one, Big Bear) because it is close to the campfire program, the pool and the Meadows trading post, but still walking distance or a very easy bike ride to the settlement. When we were last at the Fort the 1400 Loop hadn't yet been converted to Premium, but I'm pretty sure it's slated to be.

I can't find the post where I extolled the virtues of 500, so I'll try to recreate it:

  • It's walking distance to the marina, both trading posts, the pool, the campfire, the Hoop... everything except the Outpost Depot.
  • It's right across the street from the dog park.
  • It's a pet loop.
  • It has it's own comfort station (I will never stay in 700, for instance, where you have to cross a major road to get to the CS!)
  • Being so close to the marina, you get all the atmospheric sounds: the boat horn, the fireworks, the Hoop-Dee-Doo announcements, the water pageant music, the carriage ride horse hooves (clop, clop, clop). I love it!
  • There are lots of trees
  • The sites are ample

I'm sure there are some other bene's that I'm forgetting, but that's the big reasons the I love 500.

I don't have as much experience as most other DISers... but our recent stay in Loop 800 was terrific. Loved the location (pretty central, close to the pool and wifi, easy bike trip to anywhere). I'd definitely return to that loop.

WiFi? Do tell... where did you happen to find the ever-elusive Disney WiFi? :surfweb:

We don't have a pet! So, 500 would be out for us, I guess. Do you have to have a pet to stay in 500? But then again, I guess we really wouldn't want to be on the Pet loop with a two year old who is never around pets. That's too bad, it sounds like a great location. Are there any others that are for folks without pets.

Just to answer your question for others who might be wondering (since you seem to have decided against a pet loop):

No, you don't have to have a pet, or pay the pet fee ($5/day), to stay in a pet loop. As a matter of fact, I generally find that maybe a third of the folks in a pet loop don't seem to have pets... they could have a cat inside that I never saw, but still.

If you don't want a pet loop, but still want a premium that is close in, 600 might be your best bet. Loop 400 used to be a non-pet loop, but someone (TCD?) shared a picture of poop-bag dispensers on 400 suggesting it is going to be a pet loop in the final analysis.

I think 600 sounds like a good choice for us. We can't wait to go to Fort Wilderness, we are looking so forward to going for the week.

Now, that we are booked, we have to get there. So, that means that we must decide where to stay on the way. It's about 12 hours to WDW from here, so we need a plce to stay about half way. That's my next concern..I need a good place to just pull in and spend the night!

May I recommend RVParkReviews.com. They have tons of camper's reviews of thousands of campgrounds. The interface for finding CGs via the map is a bit clunky, but the reviews and info is worth it, IMHO.

Thanks so much for the site info, I will check it out today!!

We stayed in 600 back in September. I would request it again. Nicely located..close to the Meadow Trading Post and pool area, yet close enough to the Settlement/Pioneer Hall area as well. I'd request it again.

Thanks! I told DH to call today to request it. I wonder how often you actually get what you requested?

I caught a signal from the Meadows Trading Post. Some days I would sit on the porch rocking chairs... then I experimented with how far away I could get. My favorite hot spot was the picnic tables near the Meadows Pond while my DH & sons were fishing. Quite cozy! Couldn't go any farther away than that from Meadows.

I found this on allears.net but I'm not sure as to how accurate it is.
