Just wondered if it really is worth paying the extra to fly pe instead of economy. Are there any other extras as well as the extra legroom, also is there a best seet to request. :Pinkbounc

Hi Gemma,

It depends on what you want and how much money you have to spare! We flew PE a few years ago and it is very nice; really quiet and more legroom than in Economy. Just felt more luxurious, somehow.

For my family of 4 at the time of year we travel the cost can be as much as £1500 :earseek: extra to fly PE and I would rather spend the money on something else (like another trip, LOL).

If there's just two of you flying at an off peak time the cost would be much less and maybe worth it for you. Depends on how much you are happy to spend.

Cheers

We are flying PE in September and for the 2 of us it costs £1,030 less the 10% frequent virgin discount. We think it's well worth it, obviously, and good value. I have had sciatica on and off for some time and the extra legroom alone makes it worthwhile for me.

I agree with Miffy 2003 PE is great the seats are like sun loungers - I don't mind paying extra as there are only 2 of us but for a family of 4 it can work out pretty expensive!!!!

We travel late April as a family of 4 & have upgraded to PE. At 6ft 3in the extra leg room is very useful. Being able to check in later & get to be first on & off the plane is handy. We also like our baggage being first off as it speeds us through the airport. We also had no problem taking 2 push chairs & child seats put in the hold. The extra cost was £1000 for the whole family. We think its worth it.

We flew PE with Virgin for our December trip and we loved it. It definitely seemed more luxurious and the extra leg room was wonderful. We paid an extra 500 quid to go PE and it was so worth it. If I had children then I might not bother as it can work out pretty expensive but for just the two of us, the price was definitely right!

On this subject, can I add a question?

Does booking PE means you have a seperate queue at check-in and not have to pre-book your seats? I was thinking of doing it as a surprise for the family next year but didn't want them to know 'til we got on the plane.

You do have a separate check-in at the airport but you can check-in online, though you still have to check-in at the airport as well - but quicker. We have reserved seats as we like being the last row and therefore being able to recline the seats as much as we want.

I always fly Premium Economy because I am a wheelchair user and getting into a PE seat is much easier than a regular seat.

At Gatwick you have a separate check in (last time it was the same as First Class), so we had a much shorter line.

Most times, I have been sent to the Express line at passport control, so I have walked straight through to the departure lounge, though I don't know if this was because I was PE or because I was in a wheelchair.

If the plane is very full, a few lucky passengers will get bumped up from economy to PE to make room. PE passengers will get bumped to first.

On my last flight to & from Orlando, my wife and I were sitting in First Class seats downstairs (PE was upstairs on this flight and I can't climb stairs). They had some dual purpose seats at the front of the economy cabin, just behind regular First Class which can be either overspill seating for First, or PE. You still only get economy food.
