Hi all!

We are planning a cruise on the Magic (4 night out of Miami) for January or February 2017. I would (as long as all keeps going well) somewhere between 20 - 24 weeks pregnant. I know the cruise line cut-off is 24 weeks.

Questions:
1) Anyone cruise pregnant on DCL? Any tips?
2) Trip insurance with the "cancel for any reason"...we've read the DCL plan as well as a quote from TravelGuard and are not really sure what all to look for / choose / any other options out there?

Any insight would really be appreciated! So much to consider!

Just a clarification - you can't have entered your 24th week or be entering it during the cruise.

As for the insurance, typically, 3rd party insurance covers more for a lesser cost than cruise line insurance. You need to figure out what coverage and what monetary amounts are important to you.

I'd also clarify with the insurance company you're considering that pregnancy coverage (and any direct complications) is included.

We always make sure there is plenty of medical coverage (you will have to pay for any medical treatments up front and be reimbursed once home), as well as medical evacuation (that can be upwards of $50,000 per event).

As for travel insurance -- I suggest you contact the agent and ask your question directly. It may vary by plan, but I believe many (if not most) travel insurance policies specifically exclude coverage related to pregnancy. I looked at this the other day and the DCL policy definitely excludes pregnancy (it's listed in the Exclusions section).

Enjoy your cruise!

If you're already pregnant, you're probably not going to be covered by trip insurance. Most insurance has a "pre-existing condition Exclusion", where you can't have a pre-existing condition for a period of time prior to purchasing your policy. And pregnancy definitely counts as a pre-existing condition, and rarely is covered by pre-existing condition waivers, even if you could get one at this point. Even if you bought the insurance before you got pregnant, as lanejudy says, normal pregnancy is rarely covered by trip insurance.

That said, "Cancel for any Reason" insurance is just that, cancel for any reason. However, most Cancel for any Reason policies only cover your trip at around 70 -75% of your costs (they won't reimburse you 100% of your losses).

The DCL policy, however, *will* give you a credit for your cruise if the claim itself is denied (which it will be since lanejudy says the DCL policy excludes pregnancy.)

I definitely agree - have a conversation with whatever company you plan to buy the insurance from, and find out if you can be covered or not.

You definitely need to ask the company directly. With our son I became pregnant after we had already booked a future vacation (not a cruise but a land based trip) and we decided to cancel because I get horrible morning sickness and it was a beach vacation and I just couldn't get excited about putting on a bathing suit in that condition. Not to mention it was a French island so what kind of vacation would it be without wine and unpasteurized cheese ;) Anyway, the travel insurance we had purchased did not cover pregnancy but luckily our villa agency worked with us to let us reschedule a year later.

I cruised pregnant with DCL.
As far as insurance- I had done 3rd party - and explicitly wanted coverage that included pregnancy complications, good medical, and evacuation to US hospital of choice, and I got it.
However, when I booked all of that, I was not pregnant yet. (Trying to conceive).
As Princess Writes, be careful that you are not entering the 24th week - so you can't cruise at 23wks+1.
As far as cruising pregnant - that deserves its own thread!
I had one - and plenty of wonderful ladies here gave me the best advice!!! Please search for it "cruising pregnant" - It is full of great info- one cruiser even posted pictures of the teas available on board (ginger, lemon). If I could I would link to it.

I meant I would link to the thread! :). It was several pages of info. I always love to look at teas though!
