hey gals

we will be going on rccl in july
i was wondering if anyone has traveled being pregant. How many weeks were you also did you get really get sick on board. Also did you need anything from the doctor if so what did you take and what did the letter mention.

thank you again

If you will be in your second trimester or later, I would not go. Actually I don't think you can go on most cruises past 24 weeks. (I canceled a cruise last year due to a pregnancy.) I was 23 weeks along at the time of the cruise and just felt that if anything went wrong, I didn't want to have to deal with cruise docs or Jamaican docs or wherever I was! I'm cautious though :)

I wouldn't go either. I was so sick when I was pregnant, I can't imagine paying all that money to add motion sickness to the mix. However, if you are feeling fantastic, I don't think there is anything wrong with going if you want to. Think about what you really want to do on the cruise, and then decide which of those things you actually CAN do while pregnant.

I went on a cruise ten years ago when I was pregnant with my oldest son. I think I was about 13 weeks. I had no problems. I was one of those lucky women who never got morning sickness (in any of my three pregnancies), and felt great most of the time. So I would base it on how you are feeling. If you are feeling lousy, I would think about cancelling. If you are feeling fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

Congratulations and best of luck!

Pregnancy is one of those uniquely individual things - even the same woman can have very different pregnancies. You could get lucky and have a wonderful, energetic pregnancy with no morning sickness. Or you could be sick, tired for nine months (plus the next three years), have preterm labor, end up on bedrest, get yourself hospitalized. (Here is hoping for the first).

There are some things that are pretty much universally NOT advised while pregnant that are a part of my cruise experience that would make cruising less enjoyable for me, even if I was in the middle of the world's easiest pregnancy. Hot tubs and alcohol. Not that I'm the lush in the hottub, but a few drinks and a soak are part of what I'm on board for.

I agree with Crisi that it's an individual thing. My wife is 21 week pregnant and we leave tomorrow for our 6th cruise (only a 3 day). We decided to go because it's our last chance to get away just the two of us and chose a cruise because we thought it would be a lot easier then they parks or other types of vacations. Because everything is located on the ship, you never have to walk far to get back to your room. My only recommendation is that if you do decide to go, get vacation insurance. You never know might happen. We decided to go because it's our last chance to get away just the two of us.

Yea you can't get any drinks (alcoholic, that is, but you can always get virgin), and no hot tub, but we found drinks to be a little on the pricy side, and after sail away, the hot tubs are always filled. You can still eat and enjoy the shows. I always inform my wife that pregnancy is not a handicap and you just need to be a little more careful and take your time. Other then that if you feel well and you baby is ok, operate as normal. It would be sad to just sit at home for 9 months because you are pregnant and then realize that once you have your baby you don't want to go on vacation because you’re worried about them getting sick, hurt, etc... Although I have no experience, I fell it's safe to say that it might be easier to travel 21 weeks pregnant then it is to travel with a 21 month old. But my

This is an interesting topic, because I hope I'm pg on our next cruise. I don't want to wait a whole year before we take another cruise... so it's either go pg or not at all.

I know I won't be able to do everything that I loved on our last cruise, (and you've mentioned them above) but the trip is more than that: it's the atmosphere, it's the food, it's the relaxation, it's the warm weather, it's the experience! And most of all, it's for my two DD's - they loved it and can't wait to do it again. Plus, this is the best place for getting a vacation for yourself - you know your other kids are happy and entertained and you get to relax!

I saw MANY pg women on board the Wonder in March. The looked happy - of course, there's no way to know if they were sicker than anyone else.

Ultimately, of course it depends on the how your pg is going - but if you feel good, and there are no risks, why not?

I cruised a few years back at about 22 weeks pregnant. It was a wonderful experience. My doctor did not give me the complete go ahead until just before the cruise, but we made sure to purchase the insurance just in case. It was wonderful.
