So I created a different username because some friends and family know of my Disboards name and don't know that we're expecting! Today we had our "confirmation" appointment at the doctor. DH and I were talking about our summer Disney trip and the doctor said he would HIGHLY advise us against going. Bummed. We have everything booked including air and were generally excited to experience Disney before having a child. He said while he can't tell us what to do, based on reports, Zika is expected to hit Florida by this summer and there's no way he can recommend us going. DH wants to 100% listen to the dr and cancel now, but I want to wait and see what happens - if it indeed comes to Florida and when the CDC says something. I'm wondering if anyone else's doctor has said anything and if you are cancelling your summer trip?

I just posted about this actually on another thread you may want to read it. I will be 17 weeks pregnant and will be there June 14-20 and so far I am not cancelling my trip. If Zika touches down between now and my trip I am cancelling without a doubt.

This is how I am looking at it now, Zika is NOT in Florida, WDW already has a robust mosquito program in place and now is ramped up (call Guest Relations and speak to them about this) I also called Florida's Zika Hotline and the guy said to me DON'T cancel your trip, unless of course YOU want to cancel. But he is in Florida, there is no ZIKA, there is no hysteria, there are pregnant woman everywhere not fleeing the state and he is a family full of woman and he said he thinks its being premature to cancel plans to Florida. He said especially in WDW where he visits also every year and has never seen a mosquito. He said wear repellent when there and to check back with them before the trip to see if any new developments. That phone call to the hotline really sealed my feelings on it.

But this is a highly personal choice, one where you will have to live with if there was an issue. You also have to be comfortable enough going to Florida and be there without worrying the whole time, WDW probably wouldn't be much fun if your the type to worry. Clearly though, these are my thoughts and most will agree you should listen to your Doctor.

I'll be 26 weeks when we go in 2 weeks and my doctors have said I should be ok....now it's early in the season and as of now no cases have been confirmed to have been contracted in the US (knock on wood), but I am a little nervous. I have bug repellant bracelets to wear and will be spraying myself a ton to avoid getting bit.

Also I have found that on babycenter.com it has much more people posting about Zika and pregnant traveling! You should check out that site and search Zika. I actually just spoke to a woman who went last month and didn't see a mosquito once, I know its not as hot and not as many mosquitos during then but something to think about

A pregnant woman just tested positive in my state (CT). I'm getting married in a few weeks and I'm going on my honeymoon in August to Disney, no way I'll try to get pregnant before or while I'm there . Big bummer

Thanks ladies!! Our trip isn't until August, so it's right smack in the heat! I do feel they will be prepared and will definitely keep an eye on it! Right now DH agreed we will not cancel our trip. And thanks for the babycenter link - I will take a look as well as check out that other thread!

I think it's a little early to cancel any trips, as nothing has been transmitted locally in the United States yet. My husband and I have a trip planned for the last week of September (which is still summer in Florida) and we have a "wait and see" attitude. We're not canceling anything now, but if 30 days out (when our FD package has to be paid in full) things are looking grim, and the CDC/my doctor advise pregnant women to avoid Florida, then obviously we'll cancel. But if we had a trip planned for next week? I'd still be going. There is nothing to worry about at this point unless you are traveling to one of the already impacted countries. If a place like Disney is impacted, then I'll be a lot more worried about what things look like in my hometown, which is not in FL, but still in the south eastern United States, than being disappointed about having to cancel my trip.

My doctor didn't recommend going when I was pregnant (before Zika virus)...said it would be miserable...but I went anyway and had a blast. If you want to go...then I would wait and see what happens. If you have a package then just make sure you cancel before 30 days out if things don't look good...room only I think it's a week before you have to cancel.

I live in Florida and am 6 months pregnant; I work at WDW, and also visit the parks regularly. You're at no more risk in Florida than these other high population states, CDC Website.

I would only cancel if you have other pregnancy/heat concerns, not for Zika.
