By the time our October trip rolls around, I'll be 4 months pregnant. To me, this is probably a good time to go, because I'll be done my first trimester, but not super-big yet.

Since this is our first child, I'm a newbie to EVERYTHING.

I know that I'll have to stay really hydrated, which is not a problem because I consume between 48-60 ounces of water a day. I'm sure I'll need a nap here & there, which is no big deal since we're staying on property.

If any of you other DIS ladies have any advice, I'd love to hear it!

Hi - I went last year when I was 18 weeks pregnant and had no problems at all! I did need to nap and I know where EVERY bathroom is at WDW but I enjoyed the trip thoroughly. Just make sure to stay away from roller coasters, ToT, Splash Mountain, etc.. I also did not do Dinosaur but did enjoy Star Tours and Kilimanjaro Safaris. The Unofficial Guide has a bit about rides and pregnant women that you might want to look at. Drink lots of water, rest and have a great time!:)

I went when I was 7 months pregnant with DD #3. Just take it slower than usual and rest when your body feels the need to.

Enjoy and congratulations!

Hi There,

I fess up. Not only have I never been in Disney pregnant, but neither has my wife. Unfortunately, rough roads with the pregnancy forced us to postpone our trip, but she's a' coming!

I found several great resources when helping my wife plan for six months of pregnancy in the world. The biggest and best resource is right here. Just wait, you'll get tons of good info. But you might also check out these two sites:

http://www.passporter.com/wdw/pregnant.htm

and

http://wdwig.com/pregnant.htm

You'll find good information from women who've been there. The general rule seems to be relax, drink water, relax, know where the bathrooms are, relax, use your head (no, Space Mountain is not a good idea, etc), relax, and oh yeah; relax.

Enjoy it a little for us, will ya? Best wishes and congratulations!

Regards,

Pat

Have fun and scope out all of the attractions that you will be able to take your baby on since you will be missing the big attractions! Actually, make sure that you don't plan to do it all. If you feel the need you may want to rent a wheelchair. The reason why I say this is I went to WDW at 5 months and ended up in the maternity ward at Arnold Palmer! The reason for my "personal issues" was because I had walked too much. They said to have someone push me around in a wheelchair and enjoy my vacation (I did get out to wait in lines, for parades, etc). Also, take bottled water as your doctor may not want you to drink unfamiliar water. You can take your own into the parks instead of buying.

Congratulations! I was pregnant with my first when I went to WDW last August. I was only 6 weeks along, so I wasn't really tired or nauseous. We went to EPCOT, MK, and AK, and I think EPCOT had the most stuff to do. I just avoided the roller coasters in the MK (which was *really* hard for me!). You can pretty much ride anything else--the rides are so tame (The safari at AK is probably too jerky, as is Dinosaur. Come to think of it, I didn't ride any AK rides.)

I think October should be a good time to go--not too many crowds, not *too* hot.

Have fun, and be sure to pick up one of those $18 onesies! ;)

Thanks for posting this. I just found out I'm pregnant this week and we are going in mid-September. I plan to take it a little slower but I don't think it's going to really hamper anything. Congrats and have fun!

As you can tell by the heading, we do Disney a lot. Don't be hesitant at all. My first time we were new Disneyites though and I was a little concerned that there would be enough that I could do. Also, it was at Christmas and Spring Break as I am a teacher...kind of crowded. I did not feel that I missed out on anything though. Actually, I was surprised at how much was available the first time. Of course, I don't do quite as much rough stuff (big coasters etc.) as maybe others. The big one: Listen to your body and eat/drink when you need to. Take it slow, maybe have early evenings rather than stay up to midnight so to rest up for next day. I walked the whole time and did not need a wheelchair. Make sure you have good shoes, though. I would strongly recommmend doing at least sit down meals for lunch each day to give a break and rest period. We still do this rather than counter service with our 3 and 6 DSs. It REALLY helps with burnout and usually gets in the characters and/or a good meal. Have a great time! You can soon plan for your next trip as a trio. BTW, both our boys went for their first trips at about 9-10 mo. ea. Again, I was surprised at how much they got out of it that young as skeptical as I was with taking babies. Everytime we take the boys though, especially as toddlers-preschoolers, we can see a growth leap after going. They take in so much so fast.

Hi there... congratulations and have a nice holiday :)

Remember to take care of your feet, I retained water and found my feet swelled if I did too much walking, I also got blisters very easily and in general sore feet ~ wear comfortable shoes, if you are wearing socks, change them mid day for fresh ones.

have a great time

In October of '98 I was in my 4th month of pregnancy and at Disney - so I was just about where you will be - I just had to learn that the commando style of touring Disney wasn't going to happen - use your sense - rest lots - and have a wonderful wonderful time. Even though I was used to walking and was still working out regularly - I was getting tired a lot sooner than I was used to. Listen to your body - one day I pushed myself and ended up having to spend the next day in bed - naughty me! I didn't push again after that - well at least not until I was in labor (I know - bad joke)

DS is 4 and we're planning our 3rd trip with him in November this year.

Best of luck to you!

I did WDW at 7wks and 7months pregnant last year (also my first pregnancy). A couple of things I would recommend:

>If you are still feeling some morning sickness at that time, keep a package of crackers with you. They did wonders for me at 7wks.

>Don't forget to eat often enough and drink plenty of water. (I would increase your normal amount by another bottle or two during your trip.)

>Enjoy all of the non-roller coaster/overly jerky rides. There was more than enough for me to ride and do. What I enjoyed most was knowing that these were all the rides that I would get to take my DD on during her first trip.

>I definitely second the suggestion of getting a wheelchair if you feel like you need it. At 7months I was having major back pain if I stood or walked for too long. I used an ECV during our Dec trip and it made everything so much easier. The ECV allowed me to make it through the week with only minor pain.

>Make sure you set the pace. Since it sounds like it will be just you and DH, this shouldn't be too hard. Since I was travelling with my mom, grandma and two 6yos, this was something that I had to make sure I was doing.

>And most importantly, have a great time!!!

No advice from me here as I have never experienced that yet.

But i will tell you my biggest fear is being Pregnant at WDW.

why you ask? well this will be by first trip to WDW and the USA and it has been a life time dream of mine to go to disney..

My Husband and I are going to WDW before we start our family. I have been telling everyone we aren't thinking of starting a family till I have been to WDW. ( only been married nearly a year, around the time of our trip).

Biggest fear is not being able to ride all the rides at WDW.

Wouldn't be so bad if i had been before but I would feel really sad at having to sit back and watch everyone on the rides if it had been my first time.

Hi,
I conceived my son sometime during our Disney wedding/honeymoon/cruise..yes much like that cute commercial on TV, and we also went again when I was 31 weeks along(at the end of July). I had a great pregnancy, morning sickness ended promptly at 12 weeks, although my hands, lower legs and feet did start to swell during that trip. Take it easy and set the pace, don't ride anything that says that you shouldn't something as benign looking as the teacups could cause damage. Basically if I wasn't enjoying myself, no one else did either, so it was in everyone's best interest to pace themselves to me, yes I was a big pregnant crab when my body couldn't take it anymore. Drink lots of water and watch your sodium intake. You probably won't be able to feel your baby moving at 4 months, but anybody further along please keep in mind that walking will put the baby to sleep and you won't feel as much movement as you are used to feeling. I spent alot of time jostling the baby awake just to feel a kick to reassure myself...very stressful. The wheelchair is a great idea if your feet start to swell....put DH to work, you'll be doing enough once that baby is born!

Congrats! I had lots of fun both times that I was at WDW pregnant. With both of my pregnancies, I took a picture of me and Mickey with the belly! Then, I put that photo in the little bassinet at the hospital. All of the nurses thought it was cute.

With DD#2, we stayed at the Polynesian. I took oa picture of me on the balcony and used it in labot to relax myself. Nothiung like drugs and a picture of me at WDW (no epidural, too scared)

Enjoy this trip. But I'll tell you WDW with kids is even more fun!

Wear shorts or pants that are the under the belly kind. Don't wear the ones with the panel that stretches up over your belly. I was soooooooo uncomfortable in the panel shorts. It was so hot and I itched incredibly. I was 5 months in May when I went. I didn't have any other complaints than being so hot.

I've been to WDW twice while pregnant. Once at 5 months and once at 7 months. You'll do fine, but there are a lot of rides you won't be able to go on. I wish I would have rented the ECV at 7 months. That would have helped a lot. I have probably seen just about every bathroom at all of the theme parks from all of the gravity of the baby pushing down on my bladder. Take it easy but try to enjoy it all at the same time. You can watch your family and take pictures of them on the big rides, which makes for great memories. I always figured, "I'll be back, so it doesn't matter that I'm missing a lot the rides this time around." DO drink a lot of water and eat at sit-down restaurants if possible. Enjoy your trip and congratulations!;)

I did disney when I was 3 mos w/ my DD (now 6). I consulted w/ my doctor and she told me to do what I felt confortable with...that included the rides. Maybe not the brightest thing but I rode all the rides, enjoyed all the roller coasters, just took things slower and had no problems at all. I'm a little older and wiser now and I'm not sure I would do ALL the rides but....I'm one to think the warnings are sometimes a little over the top. Drink lots of water and have fun!
