I am asking this for myself and my BF. We will be going to WDW soon and we are both expecting. I seem to get out of breath easily and when in NYC last weekend I really had a hard time with all the walking. Both of us got the OK from our Dr's to go on the trip. She is expecting triplets and we know she will not be able to do all that walking. Is it OK for her to rent a wheelchair if she gets tired? And myself as well? I don't want to "take it away" from someone who has a disability. What have you done if you went to WDW while pregnant and got tired at the parks?

I was 7 months pregnant with my first child while visiting WDW. I just took it easy and had lots of breaks. I guess I didn't think of renting a wheel chair.

I don't know what the answer is here. I would be scared to go pregnant with triplets. Maybe some afternoon naps in your room would help?

You might surprise yourself - I went at 31/32 weeks and did fine. We did take lots of breaks - but that was one of my favorite trips. However, if either one of you need a wheelchair then you should definitely get one - that's what they are for.

I think if you are far enough along that you would need a wheelchair ( like the last week) you shouldn't be going. You may need to take a break or go slower but unless you aren't allowed Physical activity there is no reason you should need one. Many women are on their feet all day up till delivery at physical jobs. I just looked at your post you aren't that far along so it should not be a problem. Exercise is good for pregnant woman!

If your friend with triplets is far enough along that walking will be difficult should she be that far away from her DR.?

I know iam going to get flamed ,but being pregnant is not a handicap.
walking is good just take it slow.I had 3 children, the last 2 were 10lb babies.
Yes being pregnant is hard,If you think you and gf will need wheelchairs then
maybe you should go after giving birth.

I went at 22 weeks pregnant and 35 weeks pregnant (with the same baby on both trips). I didn't even think of renting a wheelchair. I felt great and exercised right up until I gave birth with both pregnancies.

I did spend a lot of time in the pool. That really helps after walking around the parks because the water makes you feel weightless. Very soothing! Also, drink, drink, drink your water!

I went to Paris for a week (went to Disney Paris as well) while PG with my first and away on vaca with my toddler and family while PG with my second. Both trips were in the middle of my 2nd trimester and included A LOT of walking. Like PPs said, I just took it easy, and rested often.

Honestly, if you think you may need a wheelchair this early in pregnancy then you really shouldn't be going IMO.

Thanks for all the advice/opinions. When we go on our trip I will be 17 weeks and BF will be 20 weeks. Like I said both our Dr's(different Dr's)gave us the OK to go. We are both DVC'ers and go to WDW often so no commando type touring for us! Now that I think about it, when we went to the city last weekend and we were walking all over, I really wasn't drinking much and I should've stopped for breaks more often. I think Disney will be easier because of all the benches and attractions that are sit downs. I should be fine. Frankly I don't know how BF is walking around now!!LOL I can't even imagine what carrying 3 babies is like! I was more worried about her getting tired quickly. I'll make sure we both take it slow. I also don't consider being pregnant a handicap. But, if while we are at a park and she gets tired, we can always go back to the resort. This trip was planned before we got pregnant, my airfare and all was purchased and we didn't want to cancel. She is also visiting her father for a few days before we get there so she really wants to see him. She would cancel if her Dr. tells her she should stay close to home. She's driving down.

I do want to add that this is my 4th pregnancy, 3rd baby. I never felt this out of breath and tired with the others so soon! I feel like all the things you normally get later on I have now!

Thanks for the advice about going swimming!

I have been to disney pregnant many times*I have 4 children. And I can say I only had a hard time once- I was 8 months along and it was July- I took lots of sitting breaks. I drank so much I thought I would float away. So my advice is drink tons of water and sit as much as possible. And get as much sleep as you can. Congratulations. and for your friend with the triplets if she is not high risk... and dr. gave the ok well good luck.

Hi,
I just wanted to point out there are a couple of companies that will deliver ECV's or wheelchairs to your resort to use so you are not limited to just renting from WDW. Just thought I would mention it.

Here's a link to the info about Walker Medical & Mobility Products

hth!

I was 6 months along and having shooting pains across my belly when I walked. Also I had a hard time keeping up with everyone. There are lots of wheelchairs, you aren't taking away from anyone. And you have just as much of a right to enjoy Disney as anyone else!!

If you think you need a wheelchair, by all means get one. Sometimes for people at certain times in their life, having the chair makes it easier to do things especially if doc okays it but gives you restrictions such as getting the chair.

A broken ankle (as an example) isn't a disability either. It is an injury--yet people with "injuries" use wheelchairs all the time. Their temporary condition isn't an automatic "don't go condition"--it just means "go--but do so differently".

The only time I "used" a wheelchair when pregnant was when we went with my mother. She has a condition/disability where she requires the assistance of a chair (She opts for the scooter)--but only for half the time. She needs 'rests' from walking just as much as she needs the 'rests' from sitting and she had me drive her scooter. I wouldn't have rented one on my own...but the breaks from walking were nice. I didn't experience any problems indicating I needed one.

I would think that at your fourth pregnancy, you know yourself very well. If you are so tired that you need a wheelchair, get one! :goodvibes: Good gracious, if you're keeping up with 2 kids, no wonder you're so tired! This is supposed to be fun. Women used to give birth on the edge of the field, then go back to work...I don't plan to do so!

One other thing to keep in mind. If this is just you and your friend, do whatever. But if you're whole family is going I think conserving your energy will be important. You'll need to get yourself out of the park in a pleasant manner. Don't get so tired you can't continue.

And don't let your husband push you. They are notoriously incapable of stopping when told to. ;)

You may also be loosing a little bit of perspective right now as your counter says you're 11 weeks along - the miserable stage! Until week 14 with all of mine I just wanted to DIE. The idea of walking from the couch to the bathroom was horrendous. When you go you'll be 15-16 weeks - you may have a completely different perspective. I would try to walk as much as possible just to keep in the habit of moving. As you know, labor is no joke and if you start to idle now you've got a L-O-N-G road ahead. Your friend, on the other hand, will have the belly of a 30 weeker at 20 weeks with triplets. She may need gurney let alone a wheelchair!

We went to NYC when I was 27 weeks pregnant. It was a family thing I 'had' to go to. It was 17 degrees in January and was a crazy trip, but I believe it ended up saving mine and my baby's life. We walked around a lot and I really was tired and probably shouldn't have done it BUT once I got back and just rested I got serious pre-eclampsia and delivered 5 1/2 weeks early. My daughter was fine and I recovered BUT I think if I hadn't walked so much up there that I would have had pre-eclampsia earlier and ended up delivering a much smaller less healthy child.

Take it easy and if you need a wheel chair use it but use it to take you back to the car/hotel :) Obviously pregnancy is not a handicap, but it is a "delicate condition". I think we all try and be super woman/ super mom and don't realize that pregnancy can cause serious life threatening complications if we don't take it easy and rest. :) Good luck and have a great trip!

I went to WDW for a week while I was 35wks with my 3rd baby. I have seen many pg ladies in wheelchairs while there. But, I didn't need one and did fine. You know if you need one or not, that is up to you. I felt it would slow me down. LOL! :teeth: Best wishes with #3

Good luck with your pregnancy. I agree with some of the others that in a month from now you will be a new and improved woman as that point in 2nd trimester is usually a point where you don't feel so tired or if you have morning sickness that it is gone. The Labor & Delivery nurse in me just wants to remind you and your friend make sure you drink LOTS & LOTS of water while you're walking around. Dehydration is one of the biggest causes of preterm labor. Swimming would be a great way to relax as well - take the stress off those backs and legs. The other thing that I would add, more for your friend, since she is so high-risk, is to ask her MD for a copy of her prenatal record to have with her on the trip just in case something happens and she needs to seek medical care in Florida.

Have a great trip!

We will be going to Mickey's Christmas Party in December and I will be about 25 weeks along. I intend on riding in a wheelchair. I just seem to have a lot of "pressure" and it makes walking a bit uncomfortable. I wont have to stay confined to it or anything. Just during the walking/standing in line part. I figure if there is a hill, I will get out and walk up it to avoid someone struggling to push me up it. It will just give me a convenient place to rest at all times.

I just have to say that some of these posts have me cracking up!!! :lmao:

It's true, I am in the miserable stage!! Since my 6th week I have been nauseus all day, and throwing up. I am so tired I could sleep standing!!LOL :rotfl2: I have a 3yo DS and a 8yo DD and I'm a SAHM but between them, the house, DH, and the dog, it's just been alot to keep up with when I am feeling so bad. Then I think about all that walking and I'm scared!! I really hope I feel better by then. I have been alittle better this week.

It will not only be my friends and I, our husbands and kids will be with us. She only has 1 DS and he is 4 months older than my DS. We are celebrating his(her son) birthday when we're there.

Great idea about her bringing her medical records. This is actually her 5th pregnancy and she is high risk not only because of triplets, but because of the 3 miscarriages she had prior. She is really doing great this time and so are the babies. :teeth: Her Dr said it is fine for her to go. I think I'm really more worried about her.

Thank you all for the well wishes and encouragement! I will definately make sure we drink alot of water and swim a couple of times. I already warned my husband that I am going to need lots of help with the kids, I'll need naps and we will be taking it real slow. He's great, he has no problems with it all! Poor thing was sent out last night at 10pm for pizza!! :rotfl:
