I'm roughly 7 weeks pregnant and so flipping nauseous! My doctor put me on Zofran, which is helping some, but I'm still feeling queasy and having a hard time finding things to eat. :(

Does anybody who's been here have anything that worked for them? I want to eat, I feel a little hungry, I'm just having a really hard time trying to choke anything down at the moment. :(

I ate a lot of crackers for the first 12 weeks or so. If you let yourself get hungry, the nausea gets worse. Try eating something every couple of hours. Congratulations!!!!

Tic tacs (when I wasn't eating) for some reason having a mint in my mouth
really helped
I have heard some people have good luck with lemon drops

I was nauseous for my entire first pregnancy and could eat hardly anything. With my second, the only thing that I could eat for a few months was corn soup and crackers.

Taz-- Congratulations on your new lil' bean, my coffee friend!:goodvibes

Pregnancy nausea is the worst- I'm so sorry you're dealing with it.

The thing that I found strange about mine- (I had it with two out of my three pregnancies)- was that I could be sooooo ill- but if I could just nibble on something- anything- I'd feel better. The key is to not let your stomach get empty at all. Keep something on you at all times to nibble on, even if you just can't hardly stomach it.

Orange Gatorade became my strongest friend. It helped when I couldn't keep anything down. I was sick 24 hrs a day. I'd wake up all night long just to throw up.
I lost 12 pounds in two weeks, and I only weighed 112 to begin with.
Keep saltines by your bed- when your eyes open in the morning- eat one before getting out of bed.

Also- peppermints. Suckers. Anything you can suck on.

I tried it all- ginger, ginger ale, the bracelets- the Dr even had me on Phenergan to keep me out of the hospital.

One day I woke up and it was gone around my 16th week.

Hope yours is better very soon.

1.Have crackers by the bed and "nibble" a liitle on them before you even get out of bed.
2.Drink fluids between meals and not with them
3. small meals several times a day.

Not sure if these actually work but I'm s nursing student who just completed 8 week in maternity class!;and this what we were told to teach our patients.:goodvibes

I was extraordinarily nauseous my second preg. and found out it was twins so look out. I could keep buttered pasta down most of the time. But I still was losing weight and anemic and exhausted, more then normal. The midwife ordered smoothies. I had fruit, a bit of ice cream, a bit of protein powder and, because of the anemia, molasses if I could stomach it, black strap, just a bit. After doing this for a few weeks I began to feel better.

Congratulations!!! :goodvibes

You have to find what works for you. I found when I was pregnant with my 2nd that the usually recommended crackers and other Carbs made me worse, but if I had some protein-- nuts, peanut butter, a hot dog, lunch meat etc. that would help and keep the hunger away.

My first pregnancy I was just a total loss through most of it-- just chewing made me sick. I ended up drinking Slim Fast type shakes just to get vitamins and nutrition in. My doctor recommended it. I lost a lot of weight and was really worried about the baby's health. She is now a 15 year old completely healthy young lady.

Mild Peppermints to suck on helped a lot and you might try some Ginger Tablets. They are supposed to help with nausea.

Thanks so much for all the great ideas so far, ladies! We're super excited about little Nemo (as we've dubbed the baby for now :) ), and can't wait to be passed this morning (all day) sickness stuff. This is our first, so totally uncharted waters for us.

I've taken to carrying around a bag of Ginger snaps everywhere (and also have candied Ginger, Ginger tea, Ginger ale, notice the theme? :lmao: )

Guess I should be focusing on getting down a little at a time, rather than actual "meals" right now, huh?

Hi Jo! Enjoy your coffee for me for the next few months! I haven't been able to choke down even the small cup that my doctor ok'ed.

With DD7 Skittles not 6 or 8 but 7. Another friend of mine kept Silvered Almonds in her pockets just in case. Point being ya never know what well work good luck finding your thing. I also took B12 & 1/4 of a sleeping pill I think it was unisom-that was per my dr.

awww, little Nemo.:lovestruc

Cute!!!

Once you have the baby- we'll "meet" for coffee one morning and you can tell me how great he/she is.

Feel better soon, girl.:goodvibes

What dose of Zofran are you on? If it is 4mg then call your Dr and ask if you can take 8mg. I tried 4mg and they did nothing for me. 8mg was the magic number for me. Zofran was a godsend and made me feel like a human.

I had hyperemesis gravidarum with DD12 and DS3. I had to suffer the first time but the next time Zofran had been approved for use by pregnant women.

Eat small meals and snack often. Don't let your stomach get empty - the acid on an empty stomach is horrible for nausea. Give in to your cravings as crazy as they may sound and listen to your aversions.

Good luck. This too shall pass and will soon be a memory!

I'm on the 8 mg dose for the Zofran. It's taken the hardest edge off the nausea, but I'm still struggling quite a bit right now. I'll be super glad when this part's over.

I don't really think to eat more than every 2-3 hours or so. I think I'm going to try to eat something (even a small something) every hour or so. Certainly can't hurt.

Jo - I'll take you up on that! We're due at the end of June. :teeth:

I'm sorry you are so sick--I am just over 13 weeks and my stomach seems to be easing up. I thought I was dying all of October. I was also on Zofran, but it didn't help me much. Starlight mint candies helped, as well as bland carbs, mashed potatoes, unbuttered bread, etc. Also, green apples.

Feel better soon!

How often are you taking it? I found that I could NOT go even an extra minute between doses - even had to get up in the middle of the night to take a dose to keep the levels constant in my system.

Seriously though, you will not feel like eating but you must keep something in your stomach at all times. Nibble crackers, cookies, whatever you can. An empty stomach is your enemy! Eat, eat, eat, eat, eat.

And hug my fellow Carolina girl Jo for me when you see her.

Hope you feel better soon! My Dr kept telling me that the nausea was a good sign because it meant the hormone levels were high. I wanted to punch him because I felt horrid but obviously he was right because both of those pregnancies produced very healthy babies (and super easy deliveries!).

In nursing school they told us to give lemonade (made from real lemons and sugar) and potato chips for morning sickness. In small amounts. I cannot imagine that this would actually work, but well, maybe you could give it a whirl if you get desperate and let me knhow it goes. Something about the combination of sugar salt carbs. Common sense would dictate otherwise to me, but heck who knows>?

I nibbled on gummy grapefruit (the white, Haribo variety-I've found it at Fresh Market among other places) for my nausea when pg with DS. I couldn't stand mints, even brushing my teeth made me gag. I would just nibble the grapefruit (seriously small little bites) until I started to feel hungry enough to eat something more. I hope you get some relief soon.

Papaya Enzyme. I used it thru my pregnancy. Plus it is all natural and chewable. It is a digestive aid and really works for nausea. You can get it at GNC.

My best friend loves it. I keep some in my purse all the time and recommend it to everyone for acid indigestion or nausea.

Congratulations on your new little one to be.

Ugh...my hyperemisis was so bad I wound up on home health care with a Zofran pump in my leg...so I got a steady dose 24 hours/day. Not fun.

I would bite off a tiny piece of a pepermint candy cane, and that would help. Also make sure you aren't dehydrated because that can also make you more naseous, and keep the cycle going. Before I had the treatments at home my doctor would have me go to the ER for IV fluids, and I would feel okay for a few hours...I LOVED those few hours! Ha!

Good luck! Hope you get some relief soon! :grouphug:
