Pregnant and ignoring the rule?? Doctor's advice?

I will be 4.5 months pregnant when we're down in Disney next week with our third...and I was wondering if anyone rode a "people with heart conditions and pregnant women should not ride this ride" sort of ride anyway, or if their doctors gave any advice. I have my 16w appt. next week, and plan to ask, but my understanding is that the restrictions are for those in more advanced pregnancy.

Just wondering. We probably won't go on anything super intense (Rock & Roller Coaster is under rehab, kids too small/impatient for space/splash mountain) but things like BTMRR, Body Wars and the Maelstrom, etc.

If it helps, I'm not feeling sick, and the pg is a normal singleton.

Thanks!

Laura

I went to DL last fall when I was about 6 weeks PG (found out only a couple days before we left). If I was uncertain about a ride, hubby rode it first and then gave me permission, since you look at a ride in a different light when you are PG. I went on Pirates, which is much better in DL and has 2 drops, but I did not go on any of the mountain rides. I felt, better safe than sorry. Yes, I was bummed, since this was our first time to DL and only time for quite a while, but you live through that. Congrats and have fun. There are so many other things that are fun, that the warning rides won't be missed that much.

I went at 5 months pregnant with my second. I pretty much heeded advice to stay off of those rides as they can really be pretty jarring. I did, however, ride the Safari at Animal Kingdom. There is one part that is quite bumpy and I was told to ride up front behind the driver to minimize the motion. I would definitely check with your Dr. and see what s/he says. Congrats and have a great trip!

Sorry, this is probably not what you want to hear but hear goes anyway.....I would not ride the rides that have warnings. They are there for a reason. I am a nurse and was 11 weeks pg with my first on our last trip. The only thing I rode was the safari, yep skipped them all!! I figured the safari would be no bumpier than a rough car ride so I thought it would be fine. Body Wars would have def. made me nauseated.

the only thing I rode was the Safari--my babydoc said absolutely not on anything else. sorry....

I'd have to advise skipping the rides as well. When I was about 3 months along with my second child, I was in Anaheim on a business trip. I found myself with a free afternoon, so I headed to DL. I rode all of the "safe" rides, and was by myself, and still had an absolute BLAST of a time. I can only imagine it would be even more fun when you're with someone.

Congratulations on the baby!

Add me to the better safe than sorry camp. The rides at Disneyworld will be there for you and your family on future trips. You are carrying precious cargo that needs protected. Why would you risk that for a park ride - Disney or not? There are plenty of enjoyable activities at DW that you can partake with your family. Please talk to your doctor, listen and heed the cautions, and most importantly have fun with your family on vacation! Congrats on your pregnancy!

A week into our last visit I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant. I'd ridden everything, Mountains, Hulk, ToT, RnRC, Spidey - the lot !! I was so worried that I'd harmed the baby but my doc said that it wasn't a problem that early but could have been in later pregnancy due to excessive pressure on the womb. I stayed clear of all the rides after that (but that could have had something to do with the fact that I couldn't stop throwing up for the rest of the trip as well:( )

DD2 is now 2 1/2 and looking forward to her first 'real' visit to WDW this fall :Pinkbounc

Sorry if this sounds rude but NO WAY!!!!! I went last year in May and I did not know I was pregnant. I probaly was only 2 wks along. I did do a few of the coasters and the such. I told the doctor and he said that early along not to worry at all. But I then went last year in October and I was 6 months pregant and did not do any of those rides. Basically I followed the rule of my 2yr old if he could go on so could I. Except him and daddy went on Goofy's Coaster. I did go on the Safari but as someone else said it above it is no more rougher than a car drive. :D

I rode a star wars type ride at Busch Gardens Williamsburg when I was about 4 months pregnant. I knew it wasn't a coaster or anything, but boy was I nauseous the rest of the day. I never had any morning sickness, but being pregnant must just throw your anti-nausea system out of whack. I've never liked that type of ride again (12 years now!)

When I was big and pregnant with my 3rd at WDW, I followed the advice on the signs and didn't ride. There is still plenty to do.

Another vote for no wild rides. I also did the Safari ride, but that was all. On one of our trips, I was 2 weeks along and had gone on a water slide. I worried and worried all the way home. (Found out I was pregnant at WDW!) I would never have forgiven myself if something had happened. Wierd things happen all the time.

I also vote NO. Don't risk it. I'm an L&D nurse and we get very worried about moms in fender benders or even bad falls at home. At 16-18 weeks you are at risk for placental separation with alot of jarring. Enjoy your trip, but take it easy!!;)

I have to agree with everyone here. You will only be pregnant this time once. Disney will be there forever. A healthy child is the most important thing. Plenty of fun later :0)

Please don't take that risk. If something happened during the pregnacy you would always wonder if it was caused by something you did at WDW. My son was born very prematurely and I spent a great deal of time thinking what I did that I should not have done. This is very normal behavior for anyone that has something go wrong in a pregancy. You can have a blast at WDW without taking a risk with rides that you should not do. Spend that time shopping for cute baby disney clothes!!!!!1

I was at disney 8 months pregnant and only rode the Safari. No problem. We did get preferred seating in one of the standing room only shows when a CM noticed my belly and the fact that we were standing in the back they opened the handicap area for myself and family.

I'm probably going to be the only one here saying this but....

I went in 3/96...3 months pregnant, with my 1st and only child. I rode everything but RRC (don't know if it was even there then). I have since had talks w/ doctors friends of mine...they have mixed opinions as long as you are early on...later in the pregnancy gets a resounding "NO!" Even from me. Some say it's like the caffeine (or other things I won't mention b/c it would cause a large debate)...since there is no way to know what will happen or what someone's idea of moderation is they recommend against it. There are of course lawsuits and liabilities to keep in mind for both doctors and Disney. Personally I think there maybe 2 or 3 rides a WDW that are "thrilling" enough to keep people with early pregnancy or most health issues off. I believe they are being overly cautious...that being said there is the "what if" and how you would feel if something happened to your pregnancy. Would you be the type to blame yourself for riding the Safari or not? I doubt I would...I'm more of the natures way kind of person (and I have had a miscarriage but also realize there are exceptions to the rule). But now that I have a child and know what it is like to be a mother, I wouldn't ride Space Mountain or TOT...it really wouldn't be worth the risk however small...Splash Mountain and the Safari would still make the list though.... just a different perspective.

Sorry to sound like a broken record here, but I have to agree with everyone that said no. I went at 8mos with child #3 and did not go on any rides because DH woudln't let me. It's just too big of a risk to take IMHO.

There's always the next trip - DH can wait with the baby while you catch up on the rides.

Congrats!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

I think I have ridden every ride at Disney (and several other parks) and can honestly say that there is NO ride ANYWHERE worth the risk of harming your unborn child. Enjoy the scenery, ride the "timid" rides and bask in the glory that you are carrying a very precious gift from high above. I know I sound "sappy" and "sop boxey" but I was told for years that I could not have children and was devasted. Then one day, I was pregnant...go figure! A baby is always a blessing...and I always treat it as such.

Have a great trip

I rode Test Track and Thunder Mountain when I was 4 mo. pregnant with #3. Although I had no troubles, I did not enjoy either ride because I worried the whole time. You don't notice how jarring BTMRR is until you are trying to protect your body. It's not worth the stress. Sit in the shade, have a cool drink, or just make your 15th potty stop of the day. :D

Congrats on the pregnancy!!
Another no vote here for the thrill rides. We went when I was 3 months pregnant with my firstborn in 1999. I did go on Splash Mtn, which was fine for me. Also went on Maelstrom and had no problems. To me the water rides aren't really "thrill" rides.

I avoided all the others with warnings after I learned my lesson at Universal. We went to see the Terminator 3-d show and there was a warning for pregnant women. We ignored it since we've seen it before and couldn't imagine why I couldn't go in. Well, after sitting through the whole show, there is a "surprise" at the end. I felt it in my lower abdomen and it hurt and continued to hurt for a long time. I was scared to death something happened to the baby. Fortunately, he was fine. But, we learned that the warnings are there for a reason.

We're going next month and I'll be 3 months pregnant again. My DH will have to go on all the "thrill" rides with DS while I relax, maybe do a little shopping, find a bathroom, eat an ice cream...... feeling sorry for myself already! ;)
