Pregnant and ignoring the rule?? Doctor's advice?

When I was in WDW in Dec. 01 I was about 7 weeks pregnant and I avoided all the "wilder" rides. I just felt safer doing it that way. I didn't even go on the safari.

When I was in WDW in 00 for my honeymoon, we were in line for Dinosaur (then it was called Countdown to Extinction) and in front of us was a couple and the woman was obviously 5-6 months pregnant. She went on the ride!!! I still talk about this and how mortified I was! That ride is WAY TOO rough and I just hope that her baby is healthy. But it just made me angry to see someone putting her own enjoyment before the safety of her unborn child.

The other thing about that is that I'm not sure if CM's can say anything to guests. I guess they can't, but boy, I was worried for her...

Skip the rides this trip. JMHO.

I can understand how many people would want to err on the safe side with a pregnancy but in most normal pregnancy a little jarring is not dangerous. If it was that easy to miscarry, there would no abortions being performed. Anyone with an unwanted pregnancy would just head to Disneyworld.

I know that there are exceptions and I would never tell anyone to ignore doctor's advice. I had 3 miscarriages, then a normal pregnancy, then 5 more miscarriages, then twins, and then 2 more healthy births. Yes, that is 5 kids and 8 miscarriages. Until, we found out what was causing the miscarriages (in my case, it was a genetic defect that caused the miscarriages) I was a nervous wreck and on complete bedrest for all 8 miscarriages and still lost the babies. The problem was pinpointed and so when I got pg with my twins, my doctor allowed me to do anything that I could do comfortably.

I went to Disneyland when I was 3 months PG with the twins (didn't know I was carrying twins at the time) and rode everything. I also own horses and rode them almost everyday while pg with the twins even up until the day I delivered them. They were both 7 pounders and healthy and strong. I was used to horseback riding though and so it was not like I took up a new sport like rollerblading.

I also was very active with my last two pregnancies and they were both 8 pounders. In fact my last baby was overdue and I did everything to jarr him and start labor to no avail. I finally had to be induced to start labor with him.

Now I am no way advocating riding everything at WDW. Talk to your doctor and follow his advice. In my case, I was given the go ahead.

And had a blast. I am a total daredevil, love the rides and also drank a glass of wine about 1x week during both pgs. HOWEVER, I was pretty careful about what I rode. I basically rode anything my 3yoDD rode other than Goofy's Barnstormer. I loved Killamanjaro Safari - I was all set to wait for my family and the CM told me it would be fine - they were thinking of taking the sign off, and it was. Honestly, at 4.5Mos, you will probably have more energy than everyone else (I did) but hey, someone's got to take the pictures. And besides, the next time you go, YOU get first dibs on the good rides - DH can hold the baby (that's what I am planning to do when we go in Oct)!

Have fun!!!

I agree it's unlikely to cause a miscarriage, but personally I wouldn't take the risk.
The other thing I would be worried about is your back. I am pregnant at the moment (due on Thursday), and I have had all kinds of back problems throughout my pregnancy. The hormones that are released while you are pregnant affecting all the ligaments in your body and make your back much more prone to damage. I would be worried about jarring my back and ending up in some serious pain.

I think the best advice is listen to YOUR doctor and how YOU feel. Everyone is going to have their own opinion and I know in my case I want to hear them all - but in the end I'm doing what my doctor recommended and more importantly what I feel comfortable with. I am leaving in 3 days for WDW and am 7 months pregnant. My doctor told me that the restrictions on MOST ride was simply CYA for Disney (Universal, etc). He said that roller coasters would not be harmful to the baby or me. He did add that anything with a higher G-Force he would not suggest going on. Now with that said....the only thing I'm going to ride with a restriction is the Safari - everything else I don't think I would be comfortable doing. But that's a personal decision - from what my doctor said I would say Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and BTMRR would all be fine (BTMRR is closed anyway). But I don't feel comfortable doing those. And I know I will be back in December of 2005 with my baby for Christmas and can do them all then. Good luck on your decision and just remember only you know what you will feel comfortable doing - but definitely follow your doctors guidelines.

On our last trip I was three months pregnant and avoided all the rides that Disney recommended except Splash Mountain at the MK and the Safari at AK. I do think you should follow your doctor's advice.
