Two days ago my mother suggested we all go to WDW in December. Me being the official trip planner, had just about every detail scetched out in 45 min. Speed ahead two days to today and I just found out I am pregnant with our
2nd. Yea!

But, that means I would be at the world 28 weeks pg. That means 6 weeks before my due date. I did not go early with my first baby and I'm not opposed to giving birth in a strange hospital if needs be but, will they let me on the airplane? For some reason I was thinking it was the whole last trimester you are not suppose to fly. Is that true?

I'm ok with being as big as a house at WDW (think of all the yummy extra calories I can consume!). I just want to make sure I can get on the plane!

I think your math is a little off...if you are 28 weeks, you will have 12 weeks until your due date. If you mean you will be 34 weeks, then hmmm...I don't know. We went this past December and my SIL was about 28 weeks then and did fine. I wouldn't be worried about giving birth somewhere else, but just over doing it. Maybe get a wheelchair for a few hours each day so you are off your feet?

I'm pretty certain you can fly up to your last month, but if you look huge you may want to get a doctor's note which states your due date and that you have no medical reason why you shouldn't fly -- just to be on the safe-side.

I went 7 weeks early with my daughter, so with my current pregnancy (22 weeks), I'm cutting off all plane travel in the next few weeks, but I don't think with your histroy you should be concerned.

Have a great trip!

I would totally go! I wasn't all that big at 28 weeks even with my second and still felt great. It is nice to get a vacation in while you can! You won't have a problem getting on a plane and it won't hurt your PGcy at all.

:confused3 Babies are generally born at 40 weeks.

At 28 weeks I think you would be fine. But this is one of your have to wait and see ones. Because you never know what will happen babywise- Your doctor may be a worrier- and you might not get the go ahead.

But early 7 months you should be fine. CONGRATULATIONS!

Yes, I meant 34 weeks. Sorry. Everyone in our group is pregnant, lactating, or will have just given birth so I get everyone's (including mine) info mixed up!

That's a great idea about the MD note. Hopefully I won't get so big that the the airline will be worried

When I was pregnant with my first (8 years ago) I was told that the airlines would not let you fly past 32 weeks. I would check and see what the guidelines are for your airline.

Congrats!!

Check first with your OB/GYN about their recomendations. Second, check with your airline about their restrictions (most cut off air travel at 36-37 weeks). Third, check with your health insurance and make sure you are covered if you need to visit a dr. or a hospital while in Orlando. Some will not cover a delivery a certain radius outside your home.

I have travelled about 5 months pregnant with each of my DDs. Honestly, I was not very comfortable on a plane and was tired. I also had copies of my medical records with me in case of an emergency.

There was another thread on this recently, you might want to check out those replies. Good luck!

Wow! Just checked with Southwest and they recommend not traveling within 14 days of your due date. But, they do not state it is a rule for them that must be followed. I will be a few weeks out from that thank goodness.

Thanks for the tip on checking insurance coverage out of our area. I had not thought of that. I traveled a bunch my last pregnancy and had no problems (even went sea kyaking) but never this late in the last trimester.

We move so slow thought the parks with 4 kids ages 4 and under that I don't expect it to be that taxing! I'll just kick back with a dole whip and relax with the 2 month old in our group if I need a break.

Thanks for all your help!

I would also make sure you get the trip insurance, in case your DR won't let you travel then. Just in case there are complications (most likely there won't be), but then you wouldn't have that extra stress of losing money.

I would get the insurance, go, have a great time EATING!! and enjoying your last trip before next baby!

Well, at just about 34 weeks pregnant right now with #2, WDW is the place I would least like to be right now, and I LOVE Disney!!! I posted on a similar thread on this board last week that I wouldn't go. I went at 17-18 weeks with #1 (not a problem or care in the world!) and at 22 weeks with this one and I was kinda uncomfortable at 22 weeks. Now it is even worse...with increasing braxton hicks (much worse in pg #2), an achy back, a lower riding baby (and all the fun things that come with it), and just the tiredness that comes in the third trimester. if I were you, I would plan on either going earlier in your pregnancy or after the little on is born. We went with DS at 6 mos and had an absolute blast!

I wouldn't dream of having my baby away from my doctor or hospital of choice, but we are all different. What ever you decide, good luck and congratulations!

Also check the regulations on the ages of babies allowed on the plane (in case you did have to go to a strange hospital for an early delivery). My SIL adopted out of state and couldn't bring the baby home until she was a certain age, something like 7 or 10 days old. That could be a way to extend a vacation :rotfl:

It isn't giving birth in a strange hospital you have to worry about...it's having a premature baby who will spend a week or two in the NICU. Are you prepared to live in a hotel while your baby is stuck in the hospital? My niece was born at 34.5 weeks, and was in the NICU for a week. That's stressful enough without being on vacation in a strange city. Chances are that everything would be fine, but I'm not a risk taker :) Just so you know, the fact that you didn't go early the first time means nothing in regards to what will happen this time around.

I would also make sure you get the trip insurance, in case your DR won't let you travel then. Just in case there are complications (most likely there won't be), but then you wouldn't have that extra stress of losing money.

I would get the insurance, go, have a great time EATING!! and enjoying your last trip before next baby!

But don't assume that trip insurance would cover cancellation related to your pregnancy - when we went to Disney when I was 18w pregnant with my second, most trip insurance policies did NOT cover pregnancy-related cancellations. You need to read each policy before buying to find one that fits your situation, and even then, they probably wouldn't cover cancellation just because you don't feel well enough to go.

Thanks for all the well wishes and concerns. I couldn't reply back sooner because soon after I posted we left on a 2 week cross country train trip. I'd say this little bundle is a great traveler so far!

I will look into insurance coverage outside my area. Other than that, I think we are headed to WDW at 34 weeks. we can't go any earlier because someone else in the group is due before me and doesn't want to take a 4 week old to WDW. We can't go later for other reasons. So, here we are!

No worries though. If something crazy happens and I have to go on bed rest then all I'm out is a plane ticket and my daughter can still go with her grandparents, aunts and uncles. And if I do go and the baby is born prematurely, then there is nothing I can do about that. Nor is there anything I could have done about that if I had stayed home. We will just go with the flow like anyone else who is pregnant has too.

Thanks again for the replies! All very good points.
