Pregnancy question about urine smell and test

My urine smells weird, kinda like cough medicine this week, which I have taken a few times. Also I just took a urine pregnancy test and see a very faint line. The thing is I work at a Pediatric office and I am constantly checking for lines bright or faint for strep. So I feel like I am not being objective. Did anyones urine smell weird and like what? And did you have an initial faint positive line. Thanks. Also since I am asking I recently just had a long abnormal period, so really didn't think I could be pregnant, any similar symptoms for anyone? Thanks again.

If you see any line at all(however faint) chances are you're pregnant. Call your ob/gyn tomorrow for a definitive test. Good luck!

See medically I know that, but I just wish it was a "bright" line so i could tell for sure. Plus I have been getting sick and don't want to take any more meds or possibly future antibiotics if I am. Thanks.

A lot of antibiotics can be smelled in the urine; pregnant or not, so I am not surprised that you can detect a different odor in your urine that smells like cough syrup. One has nothing to do with the other.

With my 1st child I had a very faint line and with my 2nd it was very bright. Not quite sure why they were different as I tested at about the same time with both. I know how you feel though, I did the same thing with both and couldn't wait to get to my dr. to find out for sure. Are you going to your doc tomorrow?

No, I am suppose to work tommorow and will check it again there. I actually just scheduled an ob/gyn appt for Tuesday because of worrying about infertility. Also the test I took with the faint line was suppose to pick up an HCG level at 25, it is from my office. I took another one from Walmart but it supposedly is a 100 and would be less sensitive. I didn't see a line on it, soooo, we will see.

I had a line so faint I had to ask dh if it was there. My kid is now 7. Congrats!!!

Keep us posted and good luck! Try not to stress too much. I did a lot of stressing while trying to get pregnant with my 1st. 2nd was a nice surprise! Do you have to have an appt. scheduled to take a test? My dr. made me come in and test before I had an appt. scheduled.(It was just a regular urine test.)

If you feel ok waiting, I would wait a couple days and try again with a really sensitive pregnancy test kit. Mine was really faint a couple days after I missed my period (using a cheapy Dollar tree PT) and then I bought the First Response kit, waited a couple days later (felt like forever) and it was bright pink
So a couple days you might know for sure...

No appt for tommorow. I just did this test like an hour ago. I would think their urine test would be about the same as where I work so we will see. Thanks for the comments.

By the way one of my first "pregnancy" signs was my ultra sensitive sense of smell. I'm just saying.

The HcG doubles quickly in early pregnancy. If you test with first morning urine (more concentrated) tomorrow it should be darker (if you are pregnant).

How recently was your period?

My urine absolutely smelled "off" with all three of mine.

Of course, I waited forever to take each test --- b/c none of them were planned, and I was in denial with each one -- even though I fully knew each time I was PG just from the signs (I'm a nurse-).

Do you have another test you could take in the morning with the first urine of the morning??? It might be more pronounced.

Any other signs?
Breast Tenderness?
Sense of smell very strong- other than the urine smell? Things you normally like will make you gag-- coffee sent me running to the bathroom.

Anything like that??

Like others have said, I noticed a distinct 'odor' to my urine when I was pregnant with both of my pregnancies. My second pg, I recognized it right away. Your sense of smell is more sensitive during pregnancy.

I'd recommend testing first thing in the morning, too.

I experienced the same odd smell with my first child but not the second. The nurse told me it was hormones from pregnancy. Eventually it went away. Good luck to you!

No weird smells here, but I had a super, super faint line on the day AFTER my period was late and I was actually pg with twins and had a super high beta. So those pee sticks can be very misleading. I wouldn't have even believed I was pg except for the missed period and the super high HCG numbers.

you need to use FMU with a pg test. And depending on when you O'd and when implantation occurred your test , if positive, should get darker in another day. Again FMU is key. Good Luck

My sense of smell was extremely strong in early pregnancy.

Are you exhausted or have tender breasts?
